Blasphemy.CaptainLaddie said:Drew at SS, Prado at 2B, Jeter at DH? I don't even know.
MakMan44 said:Isn't the prospect they gave up for Prado supposed to be pretty good too?
That is such a DBacks player.ThePrideofShiner said:
More than 30 homers this year, but a sub-.300 OBP.
jon abbey said:Oh my god, Prado is signed for $11M per year through 2016. I might need to find a new team to root for.
CaptainLaddie said:It makes no sense. They're like vampires, drinking up big contracts.
EvilEmpire said:I don't know. The rest of this season is a mess, but I can see what they might be doing for next year and beyond:
C: McCann (2015-2018, 2019 w/player option)
1B: Teixeira (2015-2016)
2B: Prado (2014-2016)
SS: Drew (?)
3B: Headley (?)
LF: Gardner (2015-2018, 2019 w/club option)
CF: Ellsbury (2015-2020)
RF: Beltran (2015-2016)
DH: ARod (2015-2017)
Utility IF: Ryan (2015, 2016 w/option)
- I think Prado will be the starting 2B next year
- They'll evaluate Drew to see if he is worth going after for SS
- They'll try to re-sign Headley for 3B
- ARod will serve as primary DH (if he sticks around)
- They'll hope that Beltran's elbow/shoulder problems get fixed and he'll be healthy enough to play RF most of the time
Defense might be pretty good. Some potential for offense too. Looks like the outline of a plan at least.
jon abbey said:The key there being "if Headley walks" which I think is a lot more likely to happen with Prado already on the roster, and I would much rather have Headley. This is an increasingly hard organization to root for.
So the Yankees are essentially paying 16.5 million (11 million base salary plus 50% luxury tax) for a utility player? One who's averaged an OPS of about .725 the last few years, and probably a 1.5 WAR? (I am too lazy to look up the actual numbers) And you and other yankee fans have no problem with it?Wingack said:If Headly walks Prado can land at third and split DH/3B duties with ARod (or ARod could be released). He could spell an outfielder every so often. There is a lot of value in his versatility. And if Refsnyder can really hit, he will be on the club and playing, there is a enough dead weight (and maybe some of that dead weight could even be Prado if he doesn't pick things up) that I am not too worried about him being "blocked."
FanSinceBoggs said:The Yankees position players are pretty much set for 2015. If they like Drew, they will probably bring him back at SS. I have heard that they have a young guy in AAA for 2b, but I don't remember his name. They are a little worried about his defense, but like his bat. They are set at C. They have Prado and A-Rod for 3b. Gardner, Ellsbury, and Beltran in the OF.
The Yankees biggest uncertainty going into next year is in the starting rotation. Tanaka will probably miss the entire season, but the Yankees will recover insurance money for his contract. Sabathia is terrible. Pineda can't be counted on. Nova is nothing great. Kuroda probably not coming back. It appears that Phelps will be their ace in 2015! Thus, we can be certain that the Yankees will throw 150 to 170 million at either Lester or Scherzer. They want to hold on to their first round pick, and so I think they make a huge offer for Lester, who will anchor their rotation. They will then look to sign some mid-rotation guys who won't cost a draft pick.

being able to split DH "duties" makes a baseball player versatile?Wingack said:If Headly walks Prado can land at third and split DH/3B duties with ARod (or ARod could be released).
