well, not really. If there was an even distribution, the mean and the median would be the same.

Anyways, turns out I was wrong. The median number of years since last championship is 26, represented by the LA Dodgers.

Twenty different teams have won a title in the last 35 years (counting last year as zero). The last team on that list is Pittsburgh.

Before that, you drop all the way down to Cleveland, 66 years and counting.

Then after that, the Cubs.

Then you have all the teams that have won nothing (Astros, Brewers, Padres, Rays, Mariners, Rangers, Rockies).

I dunno, as was mentioned above that '13 team was just so special, so endearing, so easy to root for.  Even after they won it, I was just as sad that it was over as I was happy that they had won it all.  I wanted to see them play the next day, and the day after that.  Speaking for myself, I will cherish that season for the rest of my life, and if fate dictates that they never win it again so long as I am alive, I guess so be it.
This is exactly how I felt about the '13 team (and this year's Patriots for that matter).  That was the first time in my life I think I wanted a team to win it more for them, than for me.... and I was sad to see the run end, even with a win.  It seems so rare that teams like that come along, where they are both so much fun to watch and so good at the same time, and I am glad that I got to live through it.

Median 26 years since the last championship isn't as good as 26 years between championships. Obviously only one of these teams is going to win in 2015.

One thing worth throwing in here...

I hate hate HATE this media perpetuated idea that our loyalty as fans has been tested because "the Sox have finished in last place two of the last three years." Both times they did so on purpose. Both times they could have finished third or whatever but threw in the towel to make some trades. You want to criticize those trades? Fine. But this isn't pre-Maddon TB – this is "if we can't compete we are going to have a fire sale."

I think this is relevant and not mentioned nearly enough with this team.

I was just thinking: imagine that it's the first inning of game 6 of the 2013 World Series. It's looking really good that we fans are going to get treated to the third World Series win in 10 years, and, the clincher is at home, first time for practically all living Red Sox fans. We had no way of knowing then that there was a last place finish coming up the next year, and that we'd be in last place on June 11 of the year after that. So what? I'll know I'll savor every game of every season from here on out. After all, I'm 39 YO now (remember Jack Benny?). [emoji6]

I wouldn't do it.  To me, 2008 to 2011 was far more enjoyable than 2012-2015 (assuming no dramatic turnaround in 2015).   Baseball is a 7 month passion, and having that passion turned into rotted apples by Independence Day like has happened in 3 of the past 4 seasons just absolutely sucks.   I felt that way before 2004 too, and I just became even more convinced after 2004 was followed in quick succession by 2007.

I got my world series and a bonus one, now I just want to be able to watch meaningful baseball games until the leaves start turning.

I've seen so many teams near the cusp fall short in the playoffs, leaving their fans both frustrated, but at the same time optimistic about the upcoming season.  I recall the Nationals sitting Strasburg late in the 2012 season and the playoffs, hopeful that even if they don't win in 2012, they can make noise the following season.  Guess what:  Nats fans are still waiting; maybe this year will be the year, but who knows?

That's the thing about Championships; you never know when the next one will come.  So, yes, I would do it in a heartbeat.  And do it again, and again, and again, and again.

I wonder what Tigers fans would think.  Or Braves fans in the 1990's for that matter.  My guess is that most would say to take the Trophy.
