Do you think an offer of #3, LAL 18, and either Bradley, Smart, or Crowder fair value for KP?
Not really. Too much variability in that LAL pick. They're the odds on favorite to land George right now, and there's too much chance that becomes the SAC pick. Ultimately, I think the SAC pick is probably worth more, but I don't think you deal Porzingis for #3, a rotation player, and a pick with risk associated with it.

On the other hand had Ainge not just traded the #1 overall pick. . .

This sounds right to me. I'd be fine offering 3, the LAL/SAC pick, and Jaylen for Porzingis, but I don't think that's enough to get it done. Change the LAL/SAC pick to the Nets pick, and I'd rather make the picks.

In other words, Phil needs to be looking to make a mistake for this to happen.

His contract is cheaper, but both he and Butler are under contract for 2 years. And there's a quote above from his brother saying he'll play out the contract and go to free agency if traded. Wouldn't that negate the youth and contract advantage?
He'd be restricted,

Knicks have a lot of holes. If the Zen Master's goal is a reasonably quick fix, and a positive story for the back-page, or as positive as it can be, he may accept a basket that includes #3, the LA/SAC '18 19 option, Crowder and Rozier, and he can sell it as getiing the equivalent of this year's 1 and two young inexpensive players who can contribute right away.

Can KP test the FA market, walk in 2 years?

Depending on price, I think I'd pass. I don't get the Porzingis love and he's already had some issues with his feet. That's not a good sign for a guy who is 7'3".

Somewhere
Can someone explain the Porzingis love to me? I know he played in a shitty system, but neither the basic or advanced stats I see tell me a story of a guy that is franchise altering. He's a big that shoots 3's at an OK clip. What am I missing? I get hyped when I see his name, and then I look into him and am never sure why people fawn over him.
Size, youth, and a lot of skills that look good when projecting forward. Only a handful of guys in NBA history with his shotblocking/three point range combination (Kirilenko, Josh Smith, Eddie Griffin). Basically, if he can improve his jumper a bit he will be a dominant player. Not a given that this will happen, but a reasonable risk to take.

I am with others here who think the Cs should tread carefully. Lower extremity issues on a young big can be career killers.

Offer Crowder, 3, and Memphis and see if they bite or you're close enough?

Don't really want to lose on a chance for a game changer in 2018. If Lakers get 2 or 3 next year you want to keep that pick.

I mean, I agree that it couldn't hurt to offer this, but I don't think that offer is close. Phil is at least going to want a shot in 2018...probably on top of what you've offered here and that may not be enough.

I know we all think Phil is nuts and sucks as a GM, but their team finished 31-51 last year. He needs at least a mini-rebuild and to do that, needs some draft picks, IMO.

BREAKING: Celtics now interested in trading for Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, according to source, via @SBondyNYDN http://nydn.us/2rN18O4
Why weren't they interested before?! Jokes aside, I'm torn on this so it depends on the price. Definitely a fan of Porzingis but potential injury issues would give me pause. If #3 and Lakers/Kings pick is the foundation along with Bradley/Crowder and lesser assets gets it done, I pull the trigger.

Key conditions for me are no Nets 2018 and no Melo. Porzingis isn't a white whale but I'd probably call him a grey whale. Young, fills a positional need, great in Stevens' system, good upside, etc. You have to wonder what other teams would offer for him. I'd see Phoenix and Minnesota as our primary competitors. Phoenix could offer #4 and some combination of Chriss, Bender, and Booker. Minnesota could offer some combination of Wiggins, #6, Lavine, Rubio, etc.

I don't think Ainge should/would include both Jaylen and #3 pick in an offer. For me, one of those assets is the centerpiece and the rest is filler. My best offer:

2017 #3, LAL/Kings future pick, 2019 Memphis/LAC/Yabu (Knicks choose) Crowder/Smart (Knicks choose)

I'm glad Amara broke that news...

One would think Phil would require Melo be in the deal. I am afraid though that would take too much time, as Phil should want to get this done in principal, if at all, before the draft. Doubt anything happens here, hopefully Danny doesn't draft someone who he doesn't have on top his board thinking Phil will want him more in a trade for KP, read that as Josh Jackson.

Right. Phil floats this in case someone like Danny temporarily loses his mind, but I don't think they were serious about moving him. Never hurts to listen.
Only thing it might do is drive a larger wedge between you and your franchise player but I guess Jackson doesn't care about that.

Shit, doing exactly what Phil just did is like a daily exercise for Danny haha

During Porzingis' next season, he will be as old as Raef was during his rookie season (and with hopefully fewer knee injuries).
the problem is, you are picking two stats/skills that aren't related to point out how unique the player might be, but this is a fruitless exercise. No offense. People do it with baseball players all the time (Player x just did thing a and thing b that only y players in history have done before at z age!!!). I'm not saying it isn't fun, but I don't think it's a good way to evaluate impact and ability.

That's what she said.
Chad Ford tweeted: "If I was Danny Ainge I’d give the Knicks 3rd pick, Lakers pick and 1 player on my roster (Thomas, Bradley, Smart, Brown, etc.) for Porzingis"

Kevin O'Conner replies "I wouldn't do this. But it's notable that last year Phil Jackson expressed regret for not acquiring Jae Crowder when he had the chance."

And "For those asking why I wouldn't: Of course it's fair! But if I'm BOS I'm holding out for bigger fish considering their position. That's all."

So, what bigger fish are there? Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony Towns? There aren't any others. Maybe Giannis.

Who are the top assets in the NBA, attainable. Not Steph, KD, or Lebron. Future building block stars.

1-KAT
2-Giannis
3-Davis
4-Porzingas

How long do you hold out for in hopes that somebody like KAT or Davis becomes available though? What if they never become available and you have all these 1st round picks?

Moreover, in a summer where Butler, George and presumably Porzingis is available, there's quite a bit of pressure for Ainge to close on one of these. He's built a war chest and if these 3 went other places and he was left holding a bag of picks, the master plan would start to look a little sketchy.

I don't think one should hold out for them at all.

If Minnesota is a decently run franchise now they should be able to keep their players. Right now, today, is when you call Dell Demps and tell him that you will give him everything you have for Anthony Davis or you will push your chips in and go for Porzingas. Make it his choice.

Pass on KP.

KO: 20 min per game 9 pts/gm, 4.8 rebounds/gm
KP: 33 min per game, 18 pts/gm, 7 rebounds/gm

We can likely take someone with either the #3 or next year's LAL pick that ends up as good as KP, let alone his injuries that are already popping up.

A big that can't rebound isn't super helpful when we're able to trade for dynamic wings for far less while retaining the option of drafting someone as good/better than KP.

You think Butler or George would be far less? I don't. George less than Butler yes but it's for only 1 year at much more salary than Porzingis. KP was playing for a much worse team in the triangle offense. You stick KP in a free-flowing offense with a much better team around him and I think those scoring numbers go up significantly.

Not sure I totally get the "hold off for someone better" argument. Presumably this year's pick is one of the best assets, so unless you can use it to get an even bigger fish before the draft, waiting means you lose it. I guess you could always trade the player you end up taking, but if he's not the player some other team wants, or he busts entirely, you're kind of screwed.

Does anyone know exactly what was KP's foot/feet injury? And how long did it keep him out and a general sense of is it the kind that recurs?

Anything that might become serious down the line torpedoes the deal for me. Those picks potentially promise some decent players for a decade. I'm against spending them on a known injury risk that would cut down the player's effectiveness significantly (I know, bold stance). If it's nothing though, KP is precisely the player you spend those sorts of assets on.

From January of 2016 until February of 2017 (approximately one year and one month), Porzingis suffered six different injuries. He has injured his left Achilles, left groin, left leg, right shoulder, right ankle, and right foot.

The thing is, Anthony Davis ha shad as extensive injury list, yet everyone is willing to give up every asset the Celtics have

AD is a true cornerstone, not sure about KP so I'd be more forgiving too.
