This spring, Lisa Carney wrote a piece about the Red Sox non-roster invitees and she has decided to do a check up on them to see where they are.
David Murphy returned to the Red Sox as a 2016 NRI but following a meh spring performance was released on March 28. After a brief stint with the Minnesota Twins, Murphy made the choice to leave baseball and begin spending more time with his family. It’s a relief to learn Murphy seems content with his decision. In his words, “Basically it got to the point where playing this game and living this lifestyle wasn’t worth it any more to be away from my family. I’m always going to miss the game and I’ll always love it, but it doesn’t compare to my family.”
