This spring, Lisa Carney wrote a piece about the Red Sox non-roster invitees and she has decided to do a check up on them to see where they are.

David Murphy returned to the Red Sox as a 2016 NRI but following a meh spring performance was released on March 28. After a brief stint with the Minnesota Twins, Murphy made the choice to leave baseball and begin spending more time with his family. It’s a relief to learn Murphy seems content with his decision. In his words, “Basically it got to the point where playing this game and living this lifestyle wasn’t worth it any more to be away from my family. I’m always going to miss the game and I’ll always love it, but it doesn’t compare to my family.”

Has anyone seen Sandoval since the surgery? Is he in the dugout for home games? Is he traveling with the team? The last report I can find on him is from Scott Lauber on 6/17:

"Sandoval, who has dealt with nutritional issues throughout his career, appeared to have lost some weight since the surgery. Red Sox officials believe his girth contributed to his defensive struggles last season and were displeased that he reported to spring training without having slimmed down.

"It was a decision I made," Sandoval said of getting in better shape during his recovery. "I've been working very hard. It was one of those things that I set forth as a goal after my surgery. I have been working very hard with the trainers and the team personnel."

Good question. I haven't seen him in the dugout, but maybe I haven't paid close enough attention.

The Sox said he was going to rehab either in Ft. Myers or his home in Miami. I haven't heard anything other than that. Maybe they don't want to remind fans he's still on the team.
