Drew has to know that pressure is coming from the backside eventually. Shocked he held onto the ball.
It may not be pretty, but it's a ballgame at least.

Tackling a WR would be pass interference. Holding a WR 6 yards from the LOS should not be an automatic 1st on 3rd and 30.Then what's stops the defense from tackling a receiver in his route on 3rd and 15, when they know they're beat? Almost all defensive penalties are automatic first downs, except offsides (because the play hasn't started), because teams would use it as an advantage to stop opponents from getting a first down when they needed to. The difference is when a defensive player makes a penalty like holding, that holding could have actually wiped out a touchdown or a massive play, so the penalty has to be more severe than the other way around.
Could use the college rule...auto 1st if it's a pass play beyond the LOS and the foul occur beyond the LOS, otherwise no auto 1st.Then what's stops the defense from tackling a receiver in his route on 3rd and 15, when they know they're beat? tackling him before the ball is out would be holding. which is what the LB did on that play.Tackling a WR would be pass interference. Holding a WR 6 yards from the LOS should not be an automatic 1st on 3rd and 30.
It's only pass interference if the ball is in the air. If a guy is in his route, and the quarterback hasn't released it, it's defensive holding. There's also illegal contact, illegal hands to the face, facemask, etc. All are automatic first downs.Tackling a WR would be pass interference. Holding a WR 6 yards from the LOS should not be an automatic 1st on 3rd and 30.
Yup. If a defensive player gets caught holding a receiver 6 yards from the LOS on 1st and 30, I have no problem with the offense getting a first down just based on stupidity.tackling him before the ball is out would be holding. which is what the LB did on that play.
i agree that holding a WR 6 yards off the LOS on 3rd and 30 should never, ever be a first down... which is why it should be a cuttable offense for any DB who does it. how often are DBs playing that close on 3rd and 30 anyway?
Yes, and the yes againDion Jones is an awesome football player.
offensive geniuses payton and brees decide to target the best defender on the field twice in a row in the red zone in crunch time.
