I’m not trying to take anything away from her. My concern is the other teams watching this and prepping for the next shootout. She has a massive, exploitable weakness. And yet, she stopped two penalties. Stopping even one is considered good.
It's got to help the keeper when the penalty takers have tired legs from playing extra time.
I watched Kasey Keller in practice one time. He would call out the side the penalty taker was shooting just before he moved. He really could read the side they were going to take about 80% of the time.
Is it a crutch she's historically relied on for penalties? I haven't watched enough to know.I’m not trying to take anything away from her. My concern is the other teams watching this and prepping for the next shootout. She has a massive, exploitable weakness.
Like I said, i haven’t seen much of her. It sticks out like a sore thumb, however. If you watch a replay of the shootout, you’ll see the Dutch keeper was actually far more disciplined. The US players simply gave her no chance. Is it a crutch she's historically relied on for penalties? I haven't watched enough to know.
You can suck it after the 72 hoops level theft in London. Revenge for one of the biggest injustices. The only thing more fitting would have been if it was terrible call against the USA.Lousy game. Neither team deserved it. Canada was basically playing for penalties after 0-0 and got lucky.
Maybe they should not be playing soccer in Tokyo in August, but that is a post for a different thread. They did a better job of retaining possession, but outside of a couple Rapinoe crosses and a Lloyd header that hit the crossbar it didn’t amount to much. Just an ugly game.
again suck itEpic time-wasting by Canada, the US has played poorly but Canada really don't deserve to win this game.
worse than delay of game? That may be the worst penalty call I have ever seen. The attacking player did not have possession or position till she ran into the defender's swing.
VAR has gone too far here.
I mean it was a pretty terrible call. You can suck it after the 72 hoops level theft in London. Revenge for one of the biggest injustices. The only thing more fitting would have been if it was terrible call against the USA.
I mean it was a pretty terrible call.
Running into a defender in the process of clearing a ball who has already started her leg swing should not be a penalty.
not as bad as LondonI mean it was a pretty terrible call.

I am willing to bet good money they will do it in a not saying but just saying way...not as bad as London
will the USA women complain about the call, they told the Candians only losers complain about calls
Sure, not as bad as London. Still a bad call. But good for you for beating the dead horse of a play from 9 years ago instead of just celebrating joyfully for your squad. A squad who, I suspect, most people in here will root for in the gold-medal contest.not as bad as London

this was okay tooCanada's greatest ever sports moment came after a goon purposely broke an opponent's ankle because he was too good for them, so I've never really felt too sorry for them about 2012.
Forget it, he's rolling.2012 was also the game that featured Tancredi stomping on Lloyd. She should have been sent off. Somehow that always gets forgotten in these rants.
I was basically saying it just to fuck with you. It's my personal favorite way to really get a Canadian riled up. But Clarke is still an asshole.you have zero, zero understanding of the 72 series to say that. less than zero.
But speaking of 72 how often has NBC revisited the hoops loss this olympics?
Fucking rights. It 4:30 am here.Forget it, he's rolling.
The US did not play well, but Canada played terribly for the final 45. The penalty came after 20 minutes where they basically did not have the ball. This wasn't a game where Canada got a call but played well enough to win.Wow I just saw the highlights. I can't comment on the game but I can on that penalty call. The US player had the inside track to the ball and began to kick when the Canadian player came flying in at the last moment. She started to swing her leg when the Canadian player was still behind her, but the Canadian player (who was really fast) got there as the leg began to swing forward. The Canadian player stuck her leg out when the American's leg swung forward and thus made contact.
No WAY can you call a penalty on that. Absolutely no way. That VAR confirmed it is a disgrace.
But from the comments here it seems like (a) Canada outplayed the US anyway, and (b) somehow it's all fine because of some terrible call against Canada eons ago.
So to be clear....Blame VAR for the penalty decision. That never gets called as a penalty in the normal flow of play - and it wasn't. But as soon as VAR gets forensic on the incident, there really is no way not to call that a penalty. I know, the Canadian player lunged forward and got a speed advantage because she wasn't really trying to play the ball and the American was, but you can't really take that into account when that sort of contact is made. Morally, never a penalty...but by the letter of the law, as viewed through the lens of VAR, I don't see how they could not give that as a penalty. (I blame VAR for existing more than anything.)
That sort of call always feels worse when it's at the very corner of the penalty area, of course. Not even VAR-reviewed if it happens one meter further away from the goal...but there you go.
