See what I mean? Esho has NO CHANCE to defend on a move like that. Zero quickness, zero adjustment capability on the fly. A sprinter and leaper, nothing else.

This is going to be a tough one down the stretch. St Louis is going to make it very tough to score, so Umass is going to need to get some movement on offense to find easier looks

The real key is going to be St. Louis's outside shooting. If they continue to suck from deep (1/12 on threes), UMass will take this one with ease. Right now, U-M's bigs are doing a decent job of fronting, keeping their legs spread and arms extended to block penetration in transition.

But if SLU starts hitting a few treys, and Kellogg extends his defense, it'll be open season.

If Gordon could shoot he would be a great player. He's got so many funky Jamison-esque tweener shots in his arsenal.

That this is a tie game is just unbelievable. That gurgling sound is a bushel of UMass chances being flushed down the toilet.

EDIT - Nice one, Gordon. And they get it back after the tie-up.

What the actual fuck is Putney doing GETTING OUT OF HIS WAY. Typical clueless UMass basketball.

That was a pathetic finish. They should have run away with this game about a hundred different times.

At this point I'm pretty much expecting them to lose the next two games and bow out unceremoniously from this weird season.

What a awful loss.

Defense made 0 stops the last 2 minutes and was awful the last 5 minutes.

Nice defense by Gordon on the last possession.

6 seed in the A10 tourney. Pathetic after the start they had.

I can't get over Putney guarding against a kick-out or whatever the hell he was doing. You really think someone else is taking the shot there?

What the fuck was everyone doing backing away from Jett? That little fuckhead is going to drive, it's all he fucking does, and the morons on umass all back away from him. You'd be better off fouling, then just moving away.

Carter and Putney 4-20 fg, 1-8 3pt, most of the misses were either wide open threes or layups. Add that to Cady being butter-soft on both ends down the stretch and there's your game. Gordon and Chaz (despite the TOs) were great, and that should have been enough. Pissed this one away.

The back of your computer
LaSalle just knocked off St. Joes, so UMASS just blew a chance for the #3 seed.

Final seedings:

1 St Louis
2 VCU
3 GW
4 St Joes
5 Dayton
6 UMASS
7 Richmond
8 LaSalle
9 St Bonnie
10 Duquesne
11 URI
12/13 Fordham/GMU

If UMASS beats URI, it will then face GW in the quarters and, if it beats GW, it will then likely face VCU.

The Dayton-St. Joes quarterfinal may be an NCAA play-in game.  St Joes didn't do itself any favors by losing to LaSalle.

I've highlighted all the potential UMass match-ups. Yes, I'm a cock-eyed optimist (though I do indeed think their draw to the championship game is pretty damned favorable, all things considered). Sucks that they'd have the latest possible time slot for their first two games.

I was going to post the same thing.  Carter had some pretty open looks on jumpers (including the first shot of the game) and Putney missed some bunnies.

Cady needs to learn how to play harder.

Fortunately, only have to say that for another couple of weeks! I won't miss him or Carter. Both of them sucked on senior day.
Carter, save for yesterday, has been one of Umass' better players down the stretch. Putney and Lalanne have been awful. I think they will miss all 3 guys though in a different way as I said above. Carter as a decent low post presence as well as a guy who can hit 3's. Putney because while completely frustrating, he is still their most athletic guy on the team and can make some crazy plays because of it. And obviously they will miss Chaz, but Trey Davis is a pretty good guy to replace him. The problem with Putney and Carter is I am not sure they have suitable replacements on the bench. I assume Esho replaces Carter but who goes in for Putney? Dyson? I guess we will see

URI looks very well-prepared. Munford's on fire. This will not be an easy night, and I doubt our stomachs and fingernails will emerge for the better.

UMass already with 5 offensive boards. Which are pretty much worthless when you're only shooting 32% from the floor.

One of the worst sequences imaginable. Horrible turnover, 3-on-1 break, foul and humiliating slam.

UMass is fortunate to be down just 3.

Mumford still hasn't missed from the field. 18 points in the first half and Rhode Island is running umass out of the building 34-24 with a minute left in the half. Umass is in trouble tonight

If they lose, are they in? I don't think they deserve it but they still might be in. Which is sad.
they are most definitely in if they lose. I'm guessing a 9 or 10 seed, but they are 100% in.

Also I've been spelling Xavier Munfords name wrong so far, oops. But what a half from him there. Scored almost half of Rhode Islands points and only missed 1 free throw, in an otherwise perfect half from him. 18 of Rhodey's 37. Umass down 37-29
