What makes Duncan a PF? When I watched him(rarely) I thought he played center even if he wasn't listed as the C.
He's been a C the past few years, but for the first decade or so of his career, he was primarily a PF. He would regularly dominate matchups against KG, for example. And back when he entered the league, the game was still geared towards big, plodding centers and Duncan was pretty mobile. He could step out and nail that jumper off the backboard or take his man down low. He could rebound and play D against 4s or 5s. When the Spurs had Robinson, they made for a dominating defensive front court. He probably could've been a C his entire career if it wasn't for Robinson. When the Admiral retired, Duncan played more C, allowing Big Shot Bob to play PF. As he aged, he slowed down and had to play C, but he was a dominant PF in his youth.

I still remember the day the Celtics lost the lottery and missed out on Duncan. That one hurt.

People in Boston lament the Duncan draft way too much. He nearly left San Antonio in 2000 to join Orlando. He sure as shit would have left Boston.

The Pitino era would have lasted longer, Duncan might well have left to escape him, and we probably would've been good enough in 1997-98 that someone else would've snagged a sliding PP in the '98 draft before he fell to us.

Was it classy of him to go out without a Kobe-esque farewell tour, or was it selfish to not give his fans a warning?

Discuss.
