Expanded playoffs likely had some impact on that. While only two more teams ultimately got in, more teams were in the mix as the trade deadline came and went leaving fewer sellers.
You'd think with fewer sellers we could have gotten some bites on JDM, but maybe he just cratered at exactly the wrong time.

Also it seems like the Mets were very active in discussions on a few different fronts including JDM and then decided at the last minute not to give up any real prospects. This was reportedly because the deal they made at the 2021 deadline came back and burned them very quickly, Pete Crow-Armstrong who is already up to the #30 prospect in MLB (mlb.com) for two months of (admittedly very good) Javy Baez on a team that ended up 77-85 and then he left in FA. We did not quite know fully then but it seems as if Cohen just said "let's keep all the prospects we can, our team is very good as is already and I will just buy whatever we need this winter".

If people really need a 'happy Red Sox news/thoughts only' thread on the main board, start a thread with something like that in the title and then maybe you will have a chance.

Also, I personally agree with the P&G sentiment that the main board is as uneven as it's ever been since I got here (around 2003?), but it's up to all of us to make it better if that's what we want (I know I do).
