Well, this sucks. This has the smell of "Well, we thought we could manage this nonoperatively but maybe we just bite the bullet and operate on it and punt this year"

I'd like the Good Doctor to chime in. The always dangerous research online seems to think surgery is rarely necessary, but career ending if required.

If he has surgery it would likely be similar to what Machado had, and he seems to be pretty well recovered. From what I can tell Rodriguez had a patellar subluxation while Machado had a full dislocation- similar mechanism of injury but Machado's was more severe
