Yeah that looks like a completely different human being. His face looks totally different.
A big part of the commitment is to completely rework diet and learn nutrition, which in certain respects can be more difficult than working hard at the gym; diet increasingly has been shown to be much more important to the equation than people used to think. No idea if that makes him a better qb, but that took a lot of work and commitment, which is always a good sign.
So yes, lots of good signs here, including willing to listen to and learn a lot of big picture stuff.“I think every year you want to do like a self-evaluation: How you felt through the games and body fat, all that stuff,” said Jones. “For me, just clean up my diet, and I’ve learned more this offseason than I probably ever have about nutrition, sleep, wellness, all that stuff.”
Jones said that he’s focused on “eating healthy, taking out a lot of things that are bad for my diet, but at the same time I need to maintain my weight and be able to take hits, so there’s a fine balance for every player. Every player’s different and, for me, I’ve definitely trimmed down body fat a little bit, and I’ll get a chance to bulk back up before the season starts and be able to absorb the hits.”
I have now seen multiple pics of the "new" Mac and still feel this way. He looks completely different.I wouldn't have recognized him if they didn't say who it was. His face looks completely different.
To me this is more just talk radio BS. He’s not cut so they can complain he’s not in shape and not all in. He’s cut, who was the last QB who was jacked????I have now seen multiple pics of the "new" Mac and still feel this way. He looks completely different.
Also, while I'm sure a lot of people still preach the idea of it being beneficial to have a little "natural padding," as Mac mentions above, I think Brady has proven that being lean does not make you more susceptible to injury.
Cam?To me this is more just talk radio BS. He’s not cut so they can complain he’s not in shape and not all in. He’s cut, who was the last QB who was jacked????

Dude suddenly has a jawline... I wonder if I could do that if I did nothing but work out and eat right for six months...?View: https://twitter.com/CourtneyFallon_/status/1542696698740367360
This is no photoshop. @MacJones_10 looks like he’s been eating his spinach this summer. JACKED #Patriots fans have to love this. No sophomore slump, please.
Guarantee that league source is or was an offensive coordinator. From Phil Perry: "I was told by one league source this offseason that if Mac Jones wanted to retire tomorrow and become an offensive coordinator, he could. He's that bright, the source explained."
From the above article, seems like a big step if he has such input in the offense. Doesn't surprise me."We're just a lot further ahead in the conversation [offensively]," Belichick said. "The plays that we talk about, or concepts we talk about, Mac has already done it before. It's easy for him to say, 'Are we going to do this on that? Are we going to do this on something else? What do you think about splitting them a little bit wider? Splitting them a little bit tighter.' Suggestions like that.
"And we have a much better feel for what he can do, what his strengths are, and how to try to play into those. He's self-aware, too. He knows what he does well. We want to try to feature those."
It's very reasonable because he performed at just about the same level as Carr did last year.,but I think it's reasonable that he could perform at, say, a Derek Carr level this year and you can contend with a QB like that.
Carr was better by ANY/A, QBR, DYAR, DVOA and EPA/Play, but honestly the margins were pretty thin, so your overall point stands. Maybe I should upgrade my expectations. It's very reasonable because he performed at just about the same level as Carr did last year.
Completion percentage was nearly identical, nearly the same same with Y/A and Y/C, TD/INT were nearly the same as well--better TD % for Mac, lower INT % for Carr,
“LOOK AT THAT PACE!”As long as he gives good reason to keep posting the video of that Jets fan dad, I will be happy.
I'm irrationally excited for Mac Jones this season.

Maybe Mac is the Pats OC.From Phil Perry: "I was told by one league source this offseason that if Mac Jones wanted to retire tomorrow and become an offensive coordinator, he could. He's that bright, the source explained."
Including your adjusted David Carr comp, I agree with this post wholeheartedly. What I mainly want to see from Mac is more confidence attacking the intermediate part of the field and a better understanding of pressure, where it's coming from, how to take advantage of it and how to elude it. Also, more aggressive throws and decision making when down, felt he played it a bit safe when they were trailing or it was obvious the team would need a lot of points to come back in a game, but that's perfectly understable for a rookie. I think he did everything else at least at an adequate NFL level. Don't think the arm is much of an issue, unless it's the reason as to why he was a bit gunshy throwing into tight windows over the middle. Don't think he'll make a Joe Burrow type jump (the weapons aren't even there for something like that to happen), but I think it's reasonable that he could perform at, say, a Derek Carr level this year and you can contend with a QB like that.

The sheer anger and befuddlement over this on other discussion forums is quite a fun read, specifically over beating out Cousins.Named #85 on the NFL top 100 players by the players

According to what are so you conclusively making this pronouncement? These rankings are by the players - not some pats fans on a forum.Mac isn't anywhere near one the best 100 players in the league at this point, but by virtue of showing the ability to at the very least provide competent QB play he's certainly among the 100 most valuable player in the league, I'd argue top 40, so it's hard to judge these rankings. I don't think he had a better season last year than Cousins, though.
Genuinely curious, which advanced stats show Mac better than Cousins? I can't really find a single stat on Pro Football Reference that puts Mac ahead of him.According to what are so you conclusively making this pronouncement? These rankings are by the players - not some pats fans on a forum.
Advanced stats show him as a top 12 QB in his rookie year and having a better year than Cousins.
The 12th best QB in the league is certainly one of the more valuable players in the league, but probably not one of the best 100 players in the league. I think every position has about 10 guys who do their job better than Mac did at QB in 2021, for instance. Do you disagree? It's my opinion, just as players (who ranked Blake Bottles number 57 on this list in a previous year) have theirs.According to what are so you conclusively making this pronouncement? These rankings are by the players - not some pats fans on a forum.

That said, Mac would be my preference going forward. I'd rather a guy like him who works within the system well and manages his limitations to reach maximum potential, than a guy who gets overconfident and tends to make a crucial mistake which I think Cousins has embodied throughout his career.
Clearly not a perfect metric (none are) but Mac and Cousins and Jimmy G are generally in the same realm. One was a rookie starter, and the other 2 are veteran QBs.So my boy Jimmy G is the fourth best QB in the NFL?? Mac should be holding this guys clipboard!
Depends on how long Mac is out, probably. If he's gone for half a season or more, you can pretty much forget about the playoffs regardless so we probably see Zappe just in case he's something. If he's only out for a couple of weeks (or a month or two), it's probably Hoyer because he gives them a better chance to steal a win here and there in the near term, which they'll certainly need if they want a shot at the playoffs.Would they really go with Hoyer over Zappe?
