2014 TBD
Clearly we're starting to see contracts increasing to reflect the successes of these Cuban players. But it is remarkable just how much of a bargain MLB teams have gotten so far. Chapman has already earned 1.5x his base contract. Cespedes has earned 1.2x his contract with over 1 year left. Puig has basically earned his contract with 5 years left! Abreu is already at about 37% of his contract with 5 years left.
We will see with Castillo, but if he can stay healthy while providing plus CF defense and average offense (15th CF this year, Jon Jay, has a WAR of 2.7), he'll be well worth his contract by its end. So even with the increasing contracts, it still seems like there's a lot of room for bargains yet.
