Just a terrible owner and now seemingly a terrible person. Get him out.
View: https://twitter.com/BennettHipp/status/1456294027297443843So remember rumors a few weeks ago that pieces were going to be coming out about Sarver.....
First one is here:
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32440987/phoenix-suns-robert-sarver-allegations-racism-misogyny
That first example...yikes.View: https://twitter.com/BennettHipp/status/1456294027297443843
Dude needs the Donald Sterling treatment
But as a result of the first example, I read "speak their language" in an entirely different (i.e. racist) context than I would otherwise. That first example...yikes.
That second example was a big reason people were interested in the Celtics hiring Ime.
Yes, I agree within the context of what we know about Sarver the second example can be viewed as him solely believing that a young Black coach could connect with you Black players because Sarver figured they were all the same. Which didn't work out, by the way, because Watson was hated and flamed out quickly. But as a result of the first example, I read "speak their language" in an entirely different (i.e. racist) context than I would otherwise.
edit: there are really almost 3 examples...1. use of the N-word 2. a young black coach can better relate to black players 3. "speak their language."
I guess my point is I don't view #2 as racist, and #3 can arguably be construed as not racist, but when coupled with #1...
What took so long for this to all come out? Why didn’t his come out when the Sterling thing was still fire?View: https://twitter.com/BennettHipp/status/1456294027297443843

Because there was a lot less smoke with Starver in 2014. There was definitely some there, but he's added a few tires. What took so long for this to all come out? Why didn’t his come out when the Sterling thing was still fire?
Also, because his stuff wasn't public. If Sterling didn't get caught on tape he probably still owns the Clippers. In 2014 a story about an owner everyone had been saying was a racist slumlord since the 90s being racist doesn't take him down without audio/video. Much like DV stuff just kinda disappeared unless you got caught knocking a woman out on tape.Because there was a lot less smoke with Starver in 2014. Said a former Suns basketball executive: "There's literally nothing you could tell me about him from a misogynistic or race standpoint that would surprise me."
Simmons used to have a gimmick called "The Tyson Zone" where you could tell him anything about somebody, no matter how crazy it sounds, and he'd believe it. Tyson of course was its namesake, but that is what it sounds like with these Sarver stories. This is the most savage quote for me:
How long did it take the NBA to eject Sterling? Also, because his stuff wasn't public. If Sterling didn't get caught on tape he probably still owns the Clippers. That's covered in the ESPN story as wellI went to school with Sarvers children. He was (and obviously still is) a massive dick ...
4 days to ban Sterling, 24 to file to terminate his ownership, about 3.5 months until sale completedHow long did it take the NBA to eject Sterling?
Sarver could hang on to the Suns for some time if he works through his lawyers, starts ripping "cancel culture" and runs to FOX News with "his side" of the story.
He'd whip up plenty of support by taking that route.
Great recap. thanks4 days to ban Sterling, 24 to file to terminate his ownership, about 3.5 months until sale completed
Recording came out on April 25th, he was banned on the 29th, League filed to terminate his ownership on May 19th, his wife has him declared incompetent, and when the league won't let her keep half the team and sell his half, she agrees with Ballmer on a deal on May 28, it goes to court, Judge decides against DOnald Sterling on July 28, issues final order on August 12, sale is completed.
Of course that had some unique issues...
1. No real dispute since it was recorded
2. Players threatened to boycott a playoff game (Doc Rivers convinced them not to).
3. Owner declared mentally incompetent so tough for him to fight it.
"I feel like situations are different," Paul told reporters. "We dealt with that in that time when all that happened. I think right now, like Book said, we're not insensitive to everything that was said or whatnot, but we don't know all the details. So the NBA will do its investigation, and in that time, all of us on our team will continue to play and do what we do."Deja vu for Chris Paul, have we heard from him yet?
Huge advantage for this Suns team to have Paul not only as a leader but as a leader who experienced similar with the Clippers. Good guy for those players to have around.Deja vu for Chris Paul, have we heard from him yet?
Sounds like harassment to meMrs Sarver makes the situation ... better?
