That's what is being said on CSNNE, the Baseball Show, with Merloni and a couple of other guys. Saying Farrell has announced this. Where? Didn't say. No surprise, but why announce it so early?

I read this as well somewhere, but saw it couched In terms of Porcello "starting the first postseason game" rather than the ALDS. (Don't want to jump the gun before the clinch.)

Oh boy, you're right, 1st place isn't clinched, and I'm as much a worst case worrier as there is. Maybe they said Porcello would start the first postseason game. That makes more sense.

Edit, changed the thread title.

Price's career record is much better against Cleveland than against Texas.
Price vs. Cle: 10-2 with a 2.24 era
Price vs. Tex: 3-5 with a 5.52 era

But so is Porcello's:
Porcello vs. Cle: 10-4 with a 3.35 era
Porcello vs. Tex: 5-4 with a 5.69 era

Not surprisingly, neither has ever faced Cleveland in the postseason. The tribe hasn't been in the postseason since either came into the league.
Price has a bad postseason record against Texas across multiple years. One bad and one okay start in 2010. One okay start in 2011. One okay to bad start in 2015 and one sort of bad relief appearance.
Porcello had one start against Texas in 2011 and pitched okay giving up 5 runs in 9 innings and getting no decision.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot here to override the simply judgement of who is pitching better right now.
