Wow. An old school hockey trade. We won't miss Subban in the division.

Yeah Nashville paid $56m for the first four years of Weber's most recent contract.

Weber has $12, $12, $6, $6, $6, $6, $3, $1, $1, $1 over the final 10 (likely the final 7) years of his deal. So it's good for the Molsons I guess, $7.85m in AAV for $5.4m in real money.

There has to be something going on behind the scenes between Subban and the Habs. Otherwise this makes no sense. Subban is vastly superior to Shea Weber who started to decline 2 years ago.

The Habs organization is the biggest bunch of egotistical maniacs in sports. They've now traded away the last two generational talents for minor squabbles with management. How did the Patrick Roy trade work out for them?

Between here and everywhere.
Holy hell.

That's a blockbuster. Is it safe to now profess my love for PK? I've quietly admitted it in the past, but now that he's no longer a Hab - what a guy, and what a player.

I love him but he's still a diving slew footer who dodges accountability for his actions.

Great player, even better person off the ice, but still pretty douchey at times.

Edit: but yes, far more likeable now.

And my ignorance of the league didn't realize how bad this deal is for the Habs. Which is lovely.

Like...PK is a better player, younger, has a shorter contract in the case he declines. Also seems like he does a ton for the community, fans and the city. And he seems to love hockey -- maybe hockey players are all miserable assholes but how could he not be fun to play with (when he's on your side)? Just zero reason to deal him without getting a lot more back if you know how to run a franchise, which they don't.

I can't fucking believe it.

Three, they dumped Chelios for a past his prime Denis Savard (who they should have drafted a decade earlier).

Although rumour is he fucked the president of the team's wife.

There were also rumblings of major chemistry issues in their locker room so maybe this has something to do with that? Subban's NTC (or NMC?) kicked in this week IIRC so this was the time to move him, I suppose.

Someone check on Bongeur. Also, someone should be sure Pierre Gautier isn't wearing a Marc Bergevin mask.
I did all I could to stammer out my wife's name and then "Hockey! Hockey! Hockey!".

I'm meeting a friend of mine who is a sports talk host in Montreal on Friday. It's going to be the only conversation in the entire city that's not got anything to do with Brexit and we might be stress-eating poutine.

What fucking chemistry issue? If somebody's got a problem in that team and their name isn't Carey Price, trade *that* guy.

It's as if the Habs were reading the Make Me Feel Better About The Bruins Thread and then actually did something about it.

Beyond that there are cap-recapture issues if Weber retires early. This is unspeakably bad for Montreal.
Wouldn't Nashville have the cap penalties if he retires? Same reason the Hawks absolutely cannot trade Hossa? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no expert.

Edit: after digging a bit deeper, it looks like it's proportional to time spent with each franchise. So yeah, a hypothetical retirement would hit the Habs worse provided it doesn't happen really, really soon...I think.

This is exactly how I feel. I'm not a huge NHL fan, and I understand I'm supposed to hate the Canadiens, but Subban always seemed like a pretty stand-up guy and was just a force when he was on the ice. If I were a jersey-buying kind of guy, I'd get a Subban Predators jersey. I guess that's the same as I'd wear it if I got one as a gift.

I believe so, but even injured guys with no chance of ever returning to the ice tend not to retire before their contract is up.
