This is good but you ommitted the down on her luck high school girlfriend with a heart of gold that puts him back on track. Our man is lonely!
The old flame breaks her leg in the second act, and her cute local boutique is going to close during the busy Christmas season. This is probably it for her dream (and her life savings). But Bill steps in and opens the store, and runs the place even better than before (with a little help from the local guys at the bar who normally only watch sports and drink beer - they just needed a little coaching!). It culminates in a Christmas Eve party where the whole town turns out and sings Livin’ on a Prayer in the town square. Bill Belichick stars in Do Your Job, tonight at 8 on Hallmark.

It sucks but it isn’t unexpected and while I hope the Krafts are doing some serious introspective thinking about what’s going on with this franchise right now, I can’t get to “embarrassing”.

Felger and Mazz were talking about it today and (I can’t believe I’m going to say this) Joe Murray made a good point that they would t let him really spell out. His point was that Kraft might now be too upset. It’s far better to get blown out at 1:00 on Sunday than on MNF.
A week after the game, no one nationally, will be talking about the Patriots being flexed out of the spot. If they would have stayed, and gotten blown out, there would have been plenty of talk, nationally.

Maybe he prefers to get gutted by the Chiefs at 1 pm on a Sunday rather than on MNF, but I don’t think it would be accurate to say that Kraft “might not be too upset”. He has to be livid that it has gotten to the point where he prefers his team to be embarassed on a Sunday instead of on national TV. At least I hope.

Lol, you guys are really really ridiculous.

It's week 15 MNF, they are always going to flex to a game with 2 playoff contenders over a game with one team out of it. I really doubt Kraft cares at all outside of how much he cares that the team is already essentially eliminated from the playoffs.

I was in Las Vegas for a Chiefs game. The whole city was crawling with KC fans. Foxboro is not Vegas but switching days for traveling fans has got to suck. But hey, they are Chiefs fans. So, who cares. But there might be some local fans where this is a big deal. Sucks.

You don’t think Kraft likes being the only game on TV with a national audience and the obligatory camera shot of him in the owner’s box and some ball washing about how great the franchise has been during his ownership, and he’s totally fine with that not happening now because his team is 2-9 and sucks ass? I hope it bothers him. It should.

There’s a difference with being surprised about this (which nobody should be) and being depressed and/or angry about this (which I am, and Kraft should be). It is just another reminder of how bad they are.

This fucking blows. My 13 year old daughter has been all over me to take her to that Pats/Chiefs game, because there's a chance Taylor Swift might be there. I told her that Tay Tay is on some foreign country tour right now, the game is going to suck, so there's no chance she'll be there. My daughter than said that's fine, she'll just go see Travis Kelce, which put me into a cross between blind, seething rage and complete sadness. My last argument was that it's a Monday night, and she can't be getting home at 2:00 a.m. from a football game.

Now it's at 1:00 on Sunday. I might have to chop my leg off the day before.
This is the first Pats-related belly laugh I've had in a while, so thank you for relating this story.

also the Patriot place businesses much prefer a Sunday 1Pm game than a 8pm Monday
Can sell stuff before and after the game not just before. Particularly food and drinks

The fact that the Pats are so much of a tire fire the league would rather flex its premier franchise out of that spot is kind of incredible. The Patriots suck supercedes KC's attractiveness. Jesus.
I'm old enough to remember when the Patriots @ Seahawks game in 2008 was flexed out of Sunday Night Football, despite the Patriots being defending AFC champs, because we were 7-5 and starting Matt Cassel (and the Seahawks were 2-10). We then ripped off 4 straight wins to close the season and became the only 11-5 team to miss the playoffs in the 32-team era. In response to this grotesque humiliation, from which there was no coming back, the Patriots franchise folded up shop and ceased to exist, obviously.

We then got Patriots @ Dolphins flexed out of SNF in 2009, because Tom Brady and the Pats were only 7-4 and the Dolphins 5-6. That was the year we won our last 3 to make the wild card game and got humiliated by Ray Rice and Baltimore. In response to this grotesque humiliation, from which there was no coming back, the Patriots defiantly drafted a psychopathic murderer in the 4th round in the next year's draft.

Two years later, Patriots vs Colts got flexed out of SNF because the suck-for-Luck Colts were gloriously 0-11 and Peyton Manning had only half a neck. Still had his usual surplus of forehead though. This aggression towards the Patriots brass would not stand, man, so they proceeded to make the next 8 AFC Championship Games in a row, winning 5.

Two years after that, Patriots @ Ravens in week 16 2013 was flexed out of primetime, despite it being an AFCCG rematch, because the Patriots had the bye locked up and Baltimore was out of playoff contention. Enraged, we stomped the Ravens 41-7.

Then in 2016, Patriots @ Jets was flexed out because the Patriots were 8-2 and on their way to a 5th title and the FitzMagic Jets were 3-7.

Clearly, getting flexed out (flexed upon?) is a disgraceful spectacle that means that The Whole League Is Laughing At The Patriots.

(the Patriots game was flexed into several times as well: Pats-Bills week 11 2007, Pats-Texans week 14 2015, etc)

Networks are going to keep flexing out of this game until it’s on the Hallmark Channel at 4 am.
I'm also old enough to remember when the Bills got re-flexed out of a more prominent TV slot that they had previously been flexed into, for stated reasons silly enough that the real reason was probably "just to spite the Buffalo fans".

I mean, nobody said the Pats had never been flexed out of a game before. I think the circumstances this time around are slightly different than any of the times they were flexed out of a national game during the 20 years when they pretty much won the division every year and made the AFC title game every other year.

Again, (a) it isn’t surprising, (b) it isn’t the end of the world, (c) you’d like to think that the Patriots ownership isn’t all that happy that they got flexed out of MNF against the defending Super Bowl champs because they are 2-9 and the game will likely not be competitive.

My takeaway from this thread is that when you have a bad team, you are liable to be flexed out of prime time.

We got flexed out of prime time.

My conclusion is that I guess we must be a bad team.

Fuck.

Bill leaves his dreary, big-city job to head to the small town where he grew up. While there, he finds the long snapper of his dreams, returns to Foxboro with his new beau, and wins his 7th Lombardi trophy.
You are just missing the late story conflict that gets resolved in the last 10 minutes. On the eve of the big game to clinch a playoff spot, an internet rumor sprouts up that the long snapper is going to sign with the Jets. Rather than talking to the long snapper for 60 seconds to address the rumor directly, BB immediately cuts him and the punter and employs a “no punts” special teams philosophy. In the ensuing game, the strategy goes miserably, until the long snapper shows up at the stadium in the 4th quarter, finds Bill on the sidelines and tells him he has no plans to leave the Patriots. Bill decides to send the punt team onto the field on first down with Matthew Slater as the emergency kicker. But, it’s all a fake! The long snapper snaps the ball and then runs out for a pass from Slater for a TD and the win!

I wonder if NE wasn't also playing next Thursday if they would have still been flexed out. Perhaps they simply thought it would be overkill to have back to back NE prime-time games considering they aren't in playoff contention.

Not sure anyone really cares now, let alone a week from now.

Does it affect the teams’ preparation? I feel like it would suck to think you had an extra day and now have to go on Sunday.

Jerry Jones would burn 345 Park Ave. to the ground if they allowed his team to be bumped from MNF, regardless of the Cowboys' record or state of the team.
I’m fairly certain they were flexed out of SNF before.

I hate that this is true, but it is. Personally, idgaf when the games are on, but I imagine at that level of wealth there are egos involved and this stuff matters. I dislike Jerry Jones immensely, but I will begrudgingly admit that he is passionate about his team, no matter how they are doing.

And his "passion" has manifested itself in nothing for his team, once he salved his ego by washing away all traces of Jimmy Johnson.
He's a blowhard.

FWIW-The Patriots seemed to have been flexed out of *Sunday* night football 5 times. I dont think any other team has more.

They got flexed out of a week 15 game in 2020 when they were in last place.

This is a dumb thread.
Teams are flexed all the time, it's all about the ratings. Every owner, team, players, fans know it can happen to their team. I'm guessing the flexed teams are compensated somehow.

Yes, this thread is dumb.

There is total agreement that the Patriots suck but people just like finding ways to pile on or find a new way or anecdote to tell everyone what we already know- they suck.

The NFL primetime world has now been spared from watching our dreadful 2 yards and a cloud of dust check down offense. Kraft should be embarrassed, or at least i hope he is.

This is a pretty big deal because of the opponent and the fact that the Pats have been the marquee franchise in the league for much of the last 20-25 years. The league would bend over backwards to keep the current face of the franchise in prime time because of the ratings, but the Pats are so bad they can't justify it.

The Chiefs got flexed out of a SNF game just last season.

No reason for you to be embarrassed, unless you draw a check from the Pats or sign those checks.

Its sort of a

1-how the mighty have fallen
2-payback is a beach

type of thing

Besides I'd rather watch a good game on MNF than watch the Pats shit themselves and Joe and Troy piss on them.

We are on the same page. Who cares?

We watched the Giants/Patriots game - and pretty much every other snap of this dreadful season. Getting flexed out is an absolute gift to the Patriots and their fans. Just let us have our crap sandwich in obscurity rather than on full display in front of an audience juiced with Swift fans.

Yes and the reason was that the opponent was 3-8. Same applies here. The opponent has to be this bad to flex Mahomes off of a prime time game.
Yes and the Patriots are bad. The Broncos were the opponent for the game the Chiefs got flexed out of SNF. Did the Broncos have to do a walk of shame or something? Did they suffer irreperable harm?

I just don't understand the angst over this. They are 2-9, would people think they aren't as bas as the record says if the league left them in that game. To me, this is just a new way of saying "we suck" of which nobody disagrees. But ultimately it is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Nobody will remember a year from now.

That the Patriots are already in the "they suck, who cares" mode absolutely is worthy of note, though. I mean, it brings me no personal frustration or embarrassment, I'd much rather watch the game at 1:00 actually, but it is a healthy reality check: they carry no weight anymore, they're just another team and they happen to suck. I don't really care as a fan, but I 100% would as the owner. I'm pretty sure "Taylor Swfit in the house for MNF" was circled in the Krafts' calendar.

My guess is the pain from this is probably very specific to a situation. Like maybe you trolled Bob, a Ravens fan, in accounting for all those years so you just know he is going to come by your desk with this news.

Or maybe its your sister-in-law who roots for the Steelers or the Bills and you couldn't resist taking shots all those years. And on and on...

It sucks when bills come due but its going to happen.

This is kinda funny, though:

View attachment 74579
That is funny. I was watching the game last night and they had Mac v Pickett up, which was just such a funny simultaneous nadir for two of the winningest franchises ever.

As for flexing, I miss when Pats and flex only made me think of a shirtless Gronk.

As for Kraft being embarrassed, I’d imagine the arrest at the massage parlor keeps things in perspective on that front for him.
