I thought this Rotoworld write-up was a pretty good summary of where he stands.  Definitely a nice buy-low guy who they can cut in pre-season if his quickness is truly gone.

Dolphins released WR Brandon Gibson.
This was an easy one to see coming. An average talent who ruptured his patellar tendon in 2013, Gibson never got back on track last season, operating as Miami's No. 4 receiver. He was owed nearly $3.5 million in salary and bonuses. Gibson can't win consistently on the outside and has lost quickness since his knee injury, hurting his ability to produce in the slot. He'll search for backup opportunities.

he was never really good before the injury and had the drops after he returned, l;argely because he couldn't get separation. Landry beat him out. Maybe a year removed from surgery will help. Known as a good guy. teammates liked him

Since it's a 1-year deal, and the bonus is lower than $65k, he qualifies for the Minimum Salary Benefit cap relief.  Miguel says that number is $585k for his experience level, and so that would make a total cap hit $625,000 ($585 plus $40k bonus) even though his contract value is $825,000.  So, basically, they get him for $105,000 above the cap minimum for a top 51 player.

From reported details Brandon Gibson should qualify for Minimum Salary Benefit - lowering cap hit of salary from $745K to $585K.Cap=625K

Gibson looks like an answer to the question, "who will be the Edelman backup if Amendola gets cut?" Maybe not a good answer, but probably a better answer than Josh Boyce.

Gibson screams of the type of guy who will be "We werent able top get a good Rutgers WR in the draft" insurance....I don't see him sticking around, but depth is never a bad thing.

Mods, can we get an auto-replace for the word "Rutgers," something like "I'm making a tired joke about a college in New Jersey?"

We didn't see LaFell sticking either. Who knows.
LaFell got real money; Gibson's getting the minimum.

As a central NJ resident and former Rutgers employee, I have that cesspool on the brain. Point of the post is, if the draft nets us a good young talent Gibson is the type I could easily see gone.

We got rid of all the auto-replaces. They're more hacked out than Rutgers jokes.
