Finally one of the dumbest overreactions to a singular tie game in a meaningless exhibition will be going away. Hopefully. Good on Manfred.
In general it hasn't pissed me off the way it does some people, but I think this year is a glaring example of how dumb it is. The Cubs were better all season and deserve home field.Letting the ASG decide home-field advantage in the WS does not bother me at all.
Well, they weren't guaranteed home field before this stupid All Star game thing happened either. In general it hasn't pissed me off the way it does some people, but I think this year is a glaring example of how dumb it is. The Cubs were better all season and deserve home field.
That's true - I should say that alternating is/was also dumb. Best record is flawed due to unbalanced schedules, but it's the best we've got.Well, they weren't guaranteed home field before this stupid All Star game thing happened either.
How bout a one game playoff at a neutral site? That's true - I should say that alternating is/was also dumb. Best record is flawed due to unbalanced schedules, but it's the best we've got.
I have a better system. Every team that fails to make the playoffs goes into a playoff of their own for the right to host the playoff that decides home field for the World Series. Perfect. Done. How bout a one game playoff at a neutral site?
Is that you, Scott Boras? How bout a one game playoff at a neutral site?
Yeah, then what if it's a team from Canada. Way too many variables.I didn't see enough love for a pre-World-Series game to determine home field, between the two WS teams, played at a neutral site.
Of course that still leaves us to debate who gets to bat last in that game, or which league's rules you use...
(I guess whichever team doesn't get thier rules, gets to bat last...)
Agreed. Sort ofThis year the AL had 5 teams with a losing record and the NL had 9. The Cubs feasted on vastly inferior opponents all year long. Why should they get rewarded for that? Best record in completely different leagues is no better than the winner of the All Star game.
I don't like your attitude on this; it's stupidI've never understood how people get so worked up about this.
I truly don't give a shit. I have zero opinion. And I have an opinion on everything. Every argument against it seems to degenerate into, "I don't like it, it's stupid."
I find it unsettling when people feel strongly about stuff and I don't know why.
Keg toss???I think the clear answer is for each League's top seed to compete in a "Battle of the Network Stars"-type event the same day as the play-in games. Feats of strength, obstacle courses, and whatnot.
This solution would ensure that Mike Napoli is on a contending teams roster every year until he dies or his hip flies off.Keg toss???
They literally change the rules between AL and NL parks, they don't do that in football. And it's baseball, where there are no audibles and the fans aren't breathing down your neck.
Well, that's one way to get the National League to adopt the DH in a hurry....Each team uses its own league's rules for every game. Problem solved...
Yes, this. Sometimes the obsession with absolute equality of schedule on SoSH is too much for me. Best record is easily the best solution. Is it 100% perfect? I guess not. But it's still easily the best solution.Every other sport uses best record for home advantage in playoff matchups (obviously excluding the Super Bowl or a wild card vs division winner scenario). None of them play the exact same opponents in a given season. All sports will have strong or weak divisions and conference in a given year. It balances out in the long run. Most wins gets home field.
Play it in Williamsport and Cooperstown in alternating years .Build a stadium at the geographic mean of the current 30 MLB stadiums that is only used for the World Series. Each team uses its own league's rules for every game. Problem solved.
You left out OmahaPlay it in Williamsport and Cooperstown in alternating years .
