Has some explained the emergence of Arrieta? Is this Cliff Lee all over again?

How old is Maddon? He always reminded me of Spencer Tracy in Guess Who's Coimg to Dinner but he looked much younger just now. The Cubs must agree with him.

Edit - 61 years old

Just read a Jayson Stark tweet....Bucs down by three runs, Arrieta has given up three in the last 70 innings!

Good analogy. I think the beard and lighter frames on his glasses are the biggest change

In his last 90 innings, he's only given up 4.  His second half of the season has been completely, 100% outrageous.

Someone should start wheeling the participation trophies into the Pirates' clubhouse.

Including tonight, he's only given up 2 earned runs in his past 71 innings.

I mean if this is the zone Arrieta has been pitching to all year then say no more. Bullshit.

I was listening to MLB radio after work, and they were talking about how lefties are getting screwed more and more by shitty home plate umps.  Something about how they setup behind the catcher, and it distorts their view of the outside of the plate for left-handed hitters.  An interesting thought, and something I don't doubt.  Of course twice tonight I've seen AWFUL strike calls against lefties.
