Andy Brickley's potty mouth
We'll have to see where the dust settles. They've got a lot of money to play with, I don't expect them to open the year with $15 million in cap space. Lots of options, could be a trade down the road or a few signings today.
What team is trading anything valuable at this point? The last time a trade was made after June 30th was in 2005 when the draft was later in the summer. Trades don't happen after July 1, it's just not a thing. Either they sign what's out there or they don't do anything. I'm not convinced there is a combination of players left in free agency that can help them fill that cap space, especially if you take Loui out of the mix. They are going into the season with a big chunk of cap space... and if they don't, we're not going to like the reasons why.

I love Backes and he's definitely in the Bruins wheelhouse, but the potential contract there scares me.

Last season alone there 10 trades completed in July, including the Kessel blockbuster and Reilly Smith going to Florida. Trades are absolutely a thing in July.

Years are tough on Ladd, I do not expect him to age well, but that's a good number for the first few years for the Isles.

The Lucic deal is insane.

Interested in the AAV on Loui.

Backes is not signing a 2-3 year deal. If people were uncomfortable signing Loui to 5-6 years, then they should be really uncomfortable with Backes for 5-6 years as he's older.
Well you were right, he didn't sign a 2-3 year deal. ;)

Greene was on buyout waivers so LAK could take another run on Lucic but they won't buy him out in the end. Awkward conversations to ensue I'm sure

That's an incredible contract. Chia is setting himself up again for a salary crunch when all those talented forwards come up for next contract. Interesting that he sheds Hall (painful) to get a desperately needed D and then spends big to get another... forward. I get replacing the winger, but that should be almost an afterthought with any cap space devoted to getting better defensemen.

I'm amazed he didn't just go ahead and finally get his man Chris Stewart.

BTW, let me echo some previous sentiments that this site has rendered the newspapers irrelevant for news on the NHL and thanks to the frequent posters. The ease and cost of the internet is eating up the newspapers sure, but they've done nothing to fight back with better writers with a more informed view on players and teams despite their resources. The best they offer is anonymous GM and scouts' takes on things - and who knows how much of that is BS. Same with radio. As William Goldman once said, "No one knows anything."

Bolts extend Hedman. Yzerman is one hell of a GM. This one came out of nowhere. $7.875 AAV.
Yep. He does a terrific job as GM, one of the best in the game along with Chicago and the LAK's GM's. Tampa will continue to be great in our division for the foreseeable future.
