Interesting that Demers and Russell haven't signed yet. Figured they would sign within the first hour or so. Haggs speculated that could be because there are a lot of teams looking to trade for a defenseman, so the market has been delayed. Squirrel might have finally found a nut there. I find that very curious.

Demers to FL for 5/22.5 probably the best contract in FA. Really surprised he couldn't get at least 6/30.
FL is going to contend for the next 5+yrs.

Given tax implications B's probably would have had to been at 5/25, that is still a deal I would have been happy with.
I just don't see Demers as that type of player. He's basically a defensive 4, and while that might be a decent fit on a team with the likes of Ekblad and Yandle, he would have not been a solution here. I'm glad the Bruins passed on him.

Panthers are going to be a pain in the assignment for some time. Everyone is now signed except Huberdeau. That said, they better hope Smith and Trocheck are the guys they saw last year because they now have $10mil tIed up in those guys

Leafs re-signed Roman Polak yesterday, numbers came out today - 1 year @ $2.25m.

Solid business for them. Overall trade was:

1/3 of Nick Spaling's season
1/3 of Polak's season

for

2 SJS 2nd rounders
Raffi Torres's post-nasal drip

If they re-sign Spaling only to trade him and Polak again on deadline day, it's officially a heist.

Same here. Sad to see him not come back for that cost, that's really too bad. Granted, don't know how his leg is holding up.

Kelly had 3g, 2a in the 2011 Habs series. They don't win that series or the Cup without him. Long live the cage.

Yep, I would have been happy if the Bruins signed him to that deal and had him as the 4th line center and PK specialist.
That would have been a good deal for us for the 4th line and PK piece. I still prefer Accari as the 4th line center.

Is he going to win the Cody Franson Memorial Free Agent Award this year? Can't think of anyone off the top of my head that's decent and still available.

Well you can make the argument on decent or not I guess. If the price drops below 4 million and 2 year or less then he becomes marginally interesting.

If I had my pick of all the FA right now I'd probably take Jiri Hudler as the best player available, and trade Spooner for D help. I don't overrate Hudler despite his big year a year back, but he is basically a better more experienced version of Spooner, who has proven he can play wing

$900K for Ferraro, apparently.

I suppose the glut of centers makes him redundant but isn't that pretty cheap? Wouldn't there be some value in stashing him ... somewhere?
