He'll be 33 in July. Isn't that deal a little crazy?
If he still has a lot of gas in the tank, thank God he didn't go to the Chiefs.

I think the deal as initially reported here is definitely a bit crazy. I just also know deals are never as initially reported. He'll be 33 in July. Isn't that deal a little crazy?

That's a blessing in disguise. I thought Green was fried, not just cooked.
Yeah, thank god. Dude is physically done. That's a blessing in disguise. I thought Green was fried, not just cooked.
Maybe they'll deal Fitzgerald now ... for StidhamThat's a blessing in disguise. I thought Green was fried, not just cooked.
Would be tough given Fitzgerald is a free agentMaybe they'll deal Fitzgerald now ... for Stidham
I'm oddly enamored by the great players that are brought in and then retire during camp, particulary the wide receivers. Adding Green to the collection along with Holt and Wayne would have been fun. That's a blessing in disguise. I thought Green was fried, not just cooked.
So you’re saying there’s a chance...Would be tough given Fitzgerald is a free agent
Really curious about his potential value. Feels like a pic swap waiting to happen. Even getting a stand-alone 4th or something feels like a reach.
Dan McGwire. But honestly, we'd be ripping them off.If Harry is part of a Brissett-Dorsett swap of blah #1's, who's the QB coming to the Pats? Rosen?
As long as it's not Haskins...If Harry is part of a Brissett-Dorsett swap of blah #1's, who's the QB coming to the Pats? Rosen?
Makes a lot more sense, that they wouldn't be able to get anything for him seemed crazy
Wow didn't they announce they were going to cut him? Now they're getting a third for him?
Nah, he's getting packaged to Dallas with JC Jackson for #11. So the answer to the question is Justin Fields. If Harry is part of a Brissett-Dorsett swap of blah #1's, who's the QB coming to the Pats? Rosen?
Well, he's not a free agent anymore. I don't know if NFL rules preclude a team from trading a recent signing right away. Not that they would anyways.Would be tough given Fitzgerald is a free agent

Yep I’m sure it’s very incentive laden. And probably release Arden Key to pay for it.I like this signing quite a bit. Seems like a good use of $5M on a position of need.

It makes the Agholor signing more puzzling.Samuel to WAS for 3/34.5. No idea why we wouldn’t go there for a guy like him.

It's hard to pass up the opportunity for some Fitzmagic. It makes the Agholor signing more puzzling.
Do we know for sure they wouldn't? Maybe he didn't want to play in NE. Always hard to tell with these things.Samuel to WAS for 3/34.5. No idea why we wouldn’t go there for a guy like him.

We don’t. Possible he didn’t want to play with Cam again or that we weren’t as interested, for whatever reason. Who knows. Do think he would have been a very nice player with Josh.Do we know for sure they wouldn't? Maybe he didn't want to play in NE. Always hard to tell with these things.
May have been that Patriots went in with a smaller offer, he rejected it think there was more to be had elsewhere, and the Patriots moved on while he found out the market price. It makes the Agholor signing more puzzling.
Yes he is. With the money the Pats have though, I would've rather had Samuel at that price than Bourne, but as was said above we don't really know the entirety of what goes on in this process.Algholor is an different player though, right? Vertical threat. Something they didn’t really have in the Gronk-Hernandez days.
But really they could have had both Samuel and Algholor and still be in solid cap position. That said maybe 48 hours ago they thought Samuel wouldn’t sign for that low so they got a lesser cheaper version in Bourne while they had the opportunity.I think Agholor over Samuel could largely be a function of role. The Pats have a stable of short/intermediate pass catchers with Jonnu, Henry, Bourne, Edelman, and Jakobi (2019 ADOT range from 5.7 to 10.3 with the 10.3 for Meyers good for 56th in the league). Samuel is crazy fast, but isn't really a great deep receiver - he was far less effective in 2019 when miscast in that role (15.2 ADOT vs. 7.1 this year). Agholor brings something completely different to the offense.
I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you!Kyle Van Noy back to New England!

I think you are right, and I think Belichick is well aware of this, but I think they took a calculated risk this year and determined that an early spending spree that basically allowed them to pick and choose who they wanted was worth it, as opposed to waiting until some players' asking prices went down but potentially getting a lesser caliber of player.Yeahhhh...I mean this is why going all-in on D1 of free agency is usually an awful strategy that only dumb teams do because you're going to overpay compared to deals to be found later.
I think most of what they did is ~fine & there are some unique circumstances with the cap that make this an interesting year to try this strategy... but they might look foolish on several of these contracts compared to the deals that teams that waited end up getting.
If you read between the lines of the Rappaport reporting, looks like he wanted to reunite with Rivera.May have been that Patriots went in with a smaller offer, he rejected it think there was more to be had elsewhere, and the Patriots moved on while he found out the market price.
So many scenarios that can be drawn ... and, since we don't know anything, we can speculate but not assign motivation.
I dont think its right.I think you are right, and I think Belichick is well aware of this, but I think they took a calculated risk this year and determined that an early spending spree that basically allowed them to pick and choose who they wanted was worth it, as opposed to waiting until some players' asking prices went down but potentially getting a lesser caliber of player.
I mean, there's years of history showing this is the case in general, but obviously there are exceptions. My primary point, though, is that we can't both be excited that we went all-in early this year, & be disappointed that other players later are going to look like bargains compared to some of our signings.I dont think its right.
The risk of overpaying is always there. You could pay day 1, get your guys, and find out it was an overpay. Or you could wait, watch the supply dwindle, and then get stuck in a bidding war for what's left and end up with a worse piece for a large price tag.
Theres no science to this. It's all a gamble.
