I saw the bump and figured it was about what happened during the bruins game last night.
For those who don’t know, NESN has yet to send Jack and Brick back to road games, making them, instead, broadcast the games from the NESN studios.
Last night, a fire alarm went off in the building so the duo had to evacuate and NESN picked up the Kraken announcers feed.

Felger and Mazz talked about this today. Absolutely pathetic how cheap NESN is that they aren't doing road games.

Have heard rumors that Frontier Cable in CT is dropping NESN. Has anybody heard this? My googling hasn’t yielded any results

And this isn't common practice for teams this season. Iirc only one other team, Pittsburgh, wasn't sending announcers on the road, which highlights how embarrassingly cheap NESN is.

I am fine with Youk and Millar. Millar can be too much sometimes but in rationed doses he is fine. Maybe even better than fine.

Mazz will make me listen to EEI or the away broadcast. I have not listened to F&M in years, but apparently NESN thinks having a lazy, whining, negative ninny will help their broadcast. Really?

I have a feeling Mazz will do really well on NESN broadcast. He is totally different on The Baseball Show than he is on F&M. He's engaging, thoughtful, and critical when he has to be.

That's good to hear. I really don't want 3-4 hours of constant F&M negativity every night. At least when it's not warranted. I'd simply listen to them on the radio for that in the rare case I'm in the mood.

Can't wait for his insightful takes about which players blow and how management is cheap.
Yeah. He's not going to do that. His content will be fine. His voice?

I'm actually a bit surprised that they didn't go with Rob Bradford. He's been doing Spring Training games for a little while, no?

Obviously not, but will he now refrain from that crap on F&M? To be honest I prefer someone in the booth that doesn't carry that stench. IMO, F&M are to Boston sports as the Republican response was to the State of the Union Address.

IDK. Felger still will, I'm sure but I have no idea what Mazz will do.

I should also say that if Mazz is in the booth, I'm rooting hard for him to do well. As consumers of this team we all benefit from a pleasant viewing experience. I also expect honest assessments of the team and it's roster, especially when things aren't going so well. I really think that's important, more so when we're able to be presented with information as to why things may be happening as they are.

It's remarkable what a pivot he takes from F&M to The Baseball Show.

He did a lot of ST last year either with Uncle Joe or Flemming (not all 3), and it was very entertaining and informative. Especially in ST, having a "reporter" type in the botth can be handy because his "day job" is to find shit out about players that no one has ever heard of..

Yes it will. They'll show classic games plus Sox minor league affiliates games but that's not enough.
While they showed a bunch of Worcester games last year (mostly on NESNplus), they only covered their home games. Without big league games, I hope NESN considers traveling with the WooSox to broadcast more games. Either that, or cover more Sea Dogs home games.

There's not much reason NESN can't have live baseball on most nights, same as they would if there wasn't a lockout. In fact, the only reason I can think of is they're cheap. Which is probably enough for them.

It would be nice to have Sox announcers on road games. They might show Worcester's opponents telecast. Yeah, more Sea Dogs games would be great as well.

I hope he's able to bring some of what you saw in him to the NESN booth. If by his "day job" you mean F&M, I'll respectfully disagree. I'll admit that I don't tune in as often as I once did, but Mazz often comes off as very lazy to me and eager to roll with most of what Felger's take of the day might be. I'm also wondering how eager players might be to talk to him as he preps for broadcasts.

You’re absolutely right, Mike.

I think that @joe dokes was actually referring to Rob Bradford, who would have been a much better choice than Mazz. NESN broadcasts will be the first time that Mazz has ever caused fans to want to listen to the radio.

So the guy that rarely watches F&M is now tuned in. LOL. Mazz says he auditioned, he thinks it went well, not yet a done deal. He said that F&M is his full time job, this would be in addition to. Felger marveling at it all. "They hate us. Is there another team that plucks an antagonist and puts him in the booth? I give them credit." Murray..."Just 6 days ago you said that you hoped they cancelled the season." Felger..."All of the abuse towards the players, the team and the owners and they're hiring YOU?" Called Mazz a "hot take artist". I have to admit it was pretty funny to see them address in this way.

If there was an audition process and Mazz emerged as a front-runner, it doesn't speak well for the process. Or the other candidates.

Respectfully, I disagree.
eh, at least this means that Mazz will actually HAVE to watch the games.
Right? I can't get over the fact that NESN is interested in a radio personality who admits that he doesn't even watch the games!

Bingo
Mazz seems to be branding himself as the “anti-nerd broadcaster” on F&M today. Analytics are ruining baseball!
Yes, agree. I mean:
  1. He admits he doesn't watch the games
  2. He hates modern analytics
  3. He doesn't understand modern analytics, thus compromising his ability to offer genuine insight
  4. He has a horrible voice, something that matters on a broadcast
  5. He is clueless about the players on the Sox ML roster, as well as those in the minors
  6. He hates Red Sox ownership
In short, he is uniquely unsuited for this role, other than being a backup infielder at Tufts 30 years ago. It's completely baffling.

This news left me physically ill. Even if Mazz is cromulent at the job I won't be able to enjoy it. Like, how can you pick a guy whose day job is to stir up controversy about your team with bad faith arguments? Ridiculous.

Because you have to separate the on air personality schtick from the real person. Merloni does the same thing on EEI and he calls games on the radio.

I don't really care for Merloni either, but he's got the cachet of being a former player for this very team. I don't find him remotely as egregious as Mazz. Merloni has a brand outside being miserable and attacking everything about the sport. Mazz has spent the last 13 years making his livelihood by telling everyone they shouldn't be enjoying Boston sports.

I haven’t listened to F & M in way over a year, and never was a regular listener. So, as long as Mazz doesn’t bring their idiocy into the NESN booth, I couldn’t care less what he does on that show. My guess is he’ll be fine, and will have entirely different persona on the Sox broadcast, if The Baseball show is any indication. As noted by others, though, the voice will be rough for 3 + hours.

Yeah , but the players might care and he's going to need a decent working relationship with these guys. I'm also wondering how the outside stuff might affect his partners in the booth. Of course if he gets himself shit canned the only worry I'll have is if they replace him with Burks.
