It was always justified imo. Kansas gains nothing by giving the Shockers the opportunity to hand them a non-conference loss. College scheduling has to have a mutual benefit or the game doesn't get made. That's why the powers pay the non-threatening low-D1 schools (and D3 schools) a nice game check for going on the road to get slammed.
