It's my sincerest wish that Kobe becomes a coach someday. Gonna miss that guy when he's gone.

I'll stick by this is killing the agent. Teams will see him as someone who isn't trusted by his own clients, so can't deliver on informal/handshake deals, which is how a lot of business gets done. And players will see him as someone who will sell them out to do make-ups for others. And the one reinforces the other...rinse and repeat.

Believe me: he's dying.

So we have tears, a meanie agent pushing poor DAJ to leave the Clippers, late night phone calls to almost-spurned GM/coaches, and players vowing to be better at giving out high-fives.  Sounds like all the makings to a great reality show.  There would be a market for that, right?

Yeah I think you're giving way to much weight to this, but I guess we will see. End of the day players will sign with him. The Twitterverse is lending a lot of spotlight to something I don't think is as rare as you do and compounding it with speculation about the agent steering him there as some kind of nefarious act.

What are the Clippers stalling? They can't sign the deal until 12:01am....if I were Doc and those players I'd take his phone and not let him out of my site. Although the thought of Cuban finding DeAndre and approaching is the stuff legend is made of.

Can't the Clippers sign him whenever they want? Or is there some difference in NBA FA transaction bylaws I'm unaware of?

Edit: I guess the moratorium would prevent it?

Everyone involved in this comes across as a baby, with Jordan being the King Infant. So Jordan's agent pushed him into **verbally** signing with Dallas, but DeAndre really didn't want to do it, but because he is apparently five years old he had to do what his agent told him to do. Then Jordan realizes that he does have some free will, says "Meh I REALLY want to stay in LA" which leads to a bizarre meeting between the Jordan and the two teams, where they fight about it and declare that they love him more than those other guys. What a farce.

Also, if the story really is that his agent pushed him into signing (which is still Jordan's fault, btw, he is the one who ultimately makes the decisions) it changes the narrative of this whole story, which is that Jordan was unhappy in LA, wanted a bigger role in the offense, and hated Chris Paul. Now it looks like Jordan loves everything about the Clippers, and it was that devilish agent who MADE DeAndre sign with Dallas.

Sam Amick talking about how the Mavs were originally going to trade for Hibbert if they didn't get Jordan.  So now what with Hibbert supposedly going to the Lakers?  If Jordan signs with the Clips all hell could break loose.

Does Cuban have the right / ability to pull the offer to Jordan? Granted he doesn't have much else to do with the money at this point but if the guy is having these thoughts, I don't think you want him at all.
Well, nothing has been signed (at least nothing binding under the cba) so I'm not sure why he wouldn't be able to yank it.

If Cuban believes really wanted to pork Jordan, isn't this the best move? It eliminates Jordan's leverage, backs him a corner at this point. The Clips could drop their offer and Jordan would likely be without another 20+ million dollar offer awaiting him.

Clips wouldn't want to do that though - they don't want a disgruntled DJ.

A Lost Time
Thinking it over, the reason verbal agreements are rarely rescinded is not because most players, agents and gms are honorable men, but because by the time they reach a verbal agreement, each side has gained all the pros and cons of said agreement and has decided it's in its interest to sign it. To put it another way. There's rarely a negotiating advantage by shopping a verbal agreement; if there is it can just be gained without the reputation loss by informing a side of a third side's offer.

This is why verbal agreements are going to continue to be the norm and will get reneged on the rare occasion in which one side is immature or has some other mental issue that doesn't allow it to stick with its original commitment.

Good luck ever signing a Fegan client again. Also I'd guess the NBPA rank and file will be thrilled that their president is helping a GM try and strong arm another player into signing in a meeting without an agent.

I don't get this. Jordan wants to meet with the Mavs, the Clips won't let him, so he's just going to sign with LA?

So if DeAndre and the Clippers get this done, Vlade has to start thinking about backing out of the Sixers trade right?

NBA offseason, "if I could turn back time" edition.

This is reason infinity-and-one why the moratorium is idiotic. People can line up deals and one domino falling wrong can throw the whole thing off.

Let teams make the deals they want and resolve the "official" sequencing in the weeks prior to preseason games. Make a mistake, get penalized.

I'm assuming this can only be because Fegan needs plausible deniability. Otherwise he never does business with the Mavs (or shit, anyone) ever again.

It would be a much different thing if a team pulled out of a deal than it is when a player does.  Someone can rethink taking a new job and people will get over it.  But if a team goes back on their word, they're going to have a hard time finding trading partners going forward.

I love that DeAndre spent years trying to shake the rep that he is an overemotional, child who can't function as an adult. Then he gets the chance, and he turns into a kid barricading himself in his house for a sleepover.
