Not sure where else to put this, plus its Zolak, but it sounds like there are signings or trades happening in the next 48 hours.
The ‘legal’ tampering period begins tomorrow, so it’s a given that there will be a flurry of activity, whether re-signing players who become FA on Wednesday, coming close to terms with other teams’ pending FA, or trades (eg, guys on franchise tenders).

Aside from Ridley maybe Sneed or Burns? Lot of the fireworks were put back in the container through the franchise tags and resignings.

What WR would sign here without a QB?
Ridley for one. He's looking for a deal for his 30+ seasons, hasn't had a 2nd contract yet and made very little in comparison with his peers because he entered the league old and missed a full season for suspension. He'll go to whomever offers the most money because this is his only shot at a big deal (WRs are basically done getting multi-year big deals by 32/33 because most are well into their decline by then, in fact Ridley's next deal will be almost all decline years). Almost all NFL free agents take the most money, but particularly guys who are unlikely due to age/position to ever get another big deal.

Pats re-signing Kendrick Bourne.

The Patriots have reportedly re-upped one of their top pass-catchers ahead of the start of free agency.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots are re-signing wide receiver Kendrick Bourne to a three-year contract worth up to $33 million. The 28-year-old wideout was expected to hit free agency this week, with the NFL’s legal tampering period expected to begin at 12 p.m.

I'd be OK if we addressed ST in a different fashion than under the later BB years. His attention to ST over time was a major advantage, but the last few years seemed to slip into an obsession and an inefficient allocation of resources.
I think nothing really changed except that the team was worse, so focusing on ST became an issues because it reduced competition for O and D spots (particularly O) where they didn't have set options. When you're locked in at WR/TE/RB/S/CB, etc. it makes sense to have guys who are elite in ST roles, if you don't makes more sense to have guys who can do both and have upside.

It wasn't the attention to ST that was the problem, it was the ineffectual execution of it under Cam Achord. Thankfully he's gone now.

It was more than that, IMO.

Since 2019, here is how the Pats have allocated resources to a few positions via the draft:

Kicker: 5th rounder, 4th rounder
Punter: 5th rounder, 6th rounder
Wide Receiver: 1st rounder, 7th rounder, 2nd rounder, 6th rounder, 6th rounder
Tight End: 3rd round, 3rd round

And this doesn't even include the fact that there have been a bunch of other guys brought in/drafted who were "going to be make an immediate special teams impact" or whatever their company line was.

Let's keep in mind that this is an allocation of positions in which they almost always have 4-5 TE/WR's in on every offensive play, while you only need one kicker and one punter on the entire roster.

I literally cant remember a single instance of Board's name being mentioned on a broadcast.

Nobody off the board today seemed like a big Pats target. Some would be nice to have, but nothing that torpedoes anything.
I thought they'd be in on Wilkins (and may have been). Sneed, Ridley, Higgins and the Oline guys are the guys that are left that would make the most sense? Maybe a coverage safety too.

I didn't expect much.. Wolf came up under adherents of the "early money is dumb money" philosophy. And it's usually right.

Agreed.

Patriots reasonable offensive signings so far:
Henry
Bourne
Gibson
Okafor

With Mac traded and Parker released, that is 6 moves to date.

Add in Onwenu to the list. 2 OT in FA is big news. QB and WR with first 2 picks would be a strong move.

One thing I like to do in deciding what I think of day 1 in FA is.... any player the Patriots didn't get... add 5% to his AAV and guarantee... would you want them to sign him for that? If it's a trade, upgrade the best (or 2nd best if it's two top 3 round picks) pick by a round... would you want that? That's usually around what it takes to beat the deal that was signed.
I see none of those this year so far except maybe Epenesa?

Oh I don’t think they missed out on anything really, it just made me laugh that Zolak said expect fireworks and then not much of anything - reminded me of full throttle

To be fair, he said Monday and Tuesday ... so there's still a chance

While I'm happy with the signings, not addressing any needs while rolling back the guys that gave us a 4-13 season is a bold strategy. I hope they go after some of these big name guys tomorrow, otherwise it feels like the gameplan is, "blame Mac, blame Belichick, run back the same squad."

Anyone sign today that the Pats missed out on? A lot of defensive players in areas where the Pats have depth already, a couple of offensive lineman, and some league average tight ends. Pittman decided to stay put. Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Gardner Minshew were not coming here for various reasons.

Seems like there are still plenty of options to upgrade the roster.

Yeah. That's actually a completely fair and reasonable point.

Which is why I'm reporting it. There's no room for balanced takes on the first day of free agency.
