Mike'd Up: The Mike Francesa Show

Oh dear...now Mike is refuting the earlier caller who was saying that Cano will be playing in complete anonymity for the next 10 years.  After a commercial break to collect his thoughts, Mike says the world has changed...Peyton Manning is has made Denver a big stage...LeBron doing the same in Miami.  Conveniently forgets that he's arguably discussing the best player in each sport and conveniently forgetting that football, for example, is played once a week in cold weather vs 6-7 games/week in the summer.

Gotta love the FF.

Nobody who isn't already a Seattle fan is going to become a Seattle fan because of Robinson fucking Cano.

Mike should enjoy hammering the Pats on their performance today.
And then go on a long rant about the PI call and how the NFL "loves" the pats

So I guess he missed all the calls that went against the Pats yesterday? And losing Gronk is no big deal? And the Denver defense is awesome? And he doesn't care? The Giants suck must have made him grumpy.

The pisser is that he will likely turn out to be right. IMO the Pats may have taken too many hits to key personnel to win the SB, and the Gronk hit may have been one too many.  I think FFF opinions are part what he believes based on defendable fact, part what he believes as a NY fan, part what sells in the NY market, and part in what he can use to drive a little controversy.

Boo freaking hoo.  Was the whole world upset about the Jets and Panthers calls?

What does Mike use for a "whole world" meter?  The guys at the coffee machine at the Fan?

This is the same guy who once again today said that discussing calls is "tedious". It was a bad call. No one, including Mike, cried for the Pats when two of them went against them earlier this season. Now he's angry that one went their way? Consistency has never been Fatty's strong suit.

He can indulge in his personal brand of bullshit when it comes to the Pats, without recourse. His audience will love it, or not care enough to spot his inconsistencies.

And he will be able to mock/deride the Pats fans who may call in to call him on this stuff. He can't lose.

Hell, is the world upset with the Ravens call from yesterday? They won on a terrible PI call too! And nobody has said a WORD about it!

I disagree.  Kay is their guy and maybe FF and WFAN wanted too much for a renewal.  Interesting that Mike recently had said that he'd never go to the CBS Sports Network like Boomer and Carton.  Maybe a reunion with MSG?

Wow

With The MFY going to WFAN, FFF still is the king there, and the MFY likely having some near-term on-field challenges, this could get interesting.

I wonder if this is payback for FFF reaming the MFY re Arod.

And Kay is the perfect YES man.

The dynamic of YES, 49% of which is owned by 21st Century Fox (Fox Sports, Fox News, etc), simulcasting an ESPN Radio show is interesting, to say the least.

I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up on MSG, which already simulcasts Boomer and Carton.

Just to back up the financial motivation here, when I worked on this show we were under the impression that it was always sort of break-even programming, it did pretty decent ratings, but it required enough extra infrastructure and personnel to offset that, so if WFAN is raising its fees I can buy that it stopped making sense for YES to keep doing it. I'm happy for my former coworkers that there's something replacing it.

"It happens anybody can lose a Super Bowl" on harbough.... "When's the last time the pats have won anything!!!!!!" "Past couple weeks it's been all brady, belichick has done nothing defense is abominable" I don't get why he still bothers me so much.

If the Pats make the Super Bowl, the fat man's head might explode. Listening to him tear down the Pats at every turn is just funny at this point. He completely ignores every flaw the other AFC contenders have. Excusing Harbaugh losing last year after consistently using the two Pats losses against Belichick just shows how biased and full of shit he is.

He gives Brady due credit, but IMO FFF's blindspot is his dislike of BB, and he can't get past it. The shame is that the injuries this year (mostly) to the Pats D makes his criticism on-target, and will likely lead to a post-season loss. But that will also be true of the 11 other teams that make the post-season..

They've been to two straight AFCCGs, and came a few plays from winning a SB, and that's all he has to say?  I know actually hoisting the trophy is given great weight, and it should be, but good fuck, he goes off the deep end the other way.

Talk about reductive reasoning.  It's almost as if he thinks he can wash away their continued success by telling us every year how a perennial 10-14 win team is some kind of disaster.

In conclusion, fuck him.  I wish I could look away, but his self-satisfied bluster does get under my skin, I cannot deny it.  It would probably be easier to swallow if he was just upfront about his animosity toward BB, although perhaps I should not assume that he is aware of this or its effect on his 'analysis' of the Patriots.

FFF in a call with a regular caller basically says that the MFY/YES dropping him for Kay had to do with MFY/YES wanting editorial control and being pissed about Arod. He says that editorial control was a big issue about 5 years ago but that now there are some newer voices/votes at the table. And he does not disagree that Kay will be a MFY puppet.

Props to "Mike Zaun" for working in references to three classic Mike and the Mad Dog moments:

1) Francesa discussing Ben Affleck's movie Daredevil "about a blind guy in a costume who fights crime in NYC", and Mad Dog asked, "True story?"

2) Mike being totally befuddled when a caller asked him when he gets together with Parcells, "Which of you is the pitcher and which of you is the catcher?"  Francesa's producer had to explain to him what the caller was insinuating,

3) The infamous moment in their 9-11 broadcast when the Dog went off about Jews needing to take loyalty oaths to America, not Israel, and Mike agreed, which they deny to this day ever happened.

The guy who does Russo won Russo's competition for best sound-alike. His movements and his voice are so incredible, especially his arm motions, and his facial expressions. I still can't stop laughing about that.

Fatso will conveniently be off until Friday so he won't have to answer any Pats calls after today. It's too bad since he called Baltimore a better team this morning.
