It'll still bring in the bucks though, that's what counts. How is this even a thing? The best boxing technician (maybe of all time) fighting - using boxing rules - against an MMA fighter? It's going to be a slaughter, and probably a boring one at that. McGregor won't touch him.
It's weird that Mayweather opened at -2250 and has been trending downward ever since. It'll be interesting to see how the odds move now that the fight is official.Mayweather is -800. Take all my money, please.
Unless...It'll still bring in the bucks though, that's what counts.
Floyd is getting pretty old so you have to figure this is it for real.
He cracks me up
SrslyMayweather is -800. Take all my money, please.
Probably almost on the 29thDamn have a wedding that day. What time do we expect the actual fight time to be?
Shameless cash grabbing and record chasing, isn't it?I know the fight game has always been about bringing in the dough...but this is a new level of shameless cash-grabbing. As anti-climactic as Mayweather v Pac was, at least there was a sense of competition as those two were regarded as the best fighters of their generation and had never met. There is no sense of competition here, it's literally just two guys putting on a freak show fight that doesn't meant anything and trying to con money out of people's curiosity. And it's probably going to work.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. How many times have you been punched in the head? You think McGregor isn't going to compete? You think he thinks he's getting his ass whupped in front of tens of millions of people?I know the fight game has always been about bringing in the dough...but this is a new level of shameless cash-grabbing. I assume Conor is going to try and win the fight, whether or not he truly thinks he can win I cannot answer. I do think that to McGregor and Dana White the result of the fight doesn't really matter to them; it is all about increasing their notoriety and making a lot of money. It's a freak show fight, a gimmicked fight that is something that RINGS or KSW would put on, but blown up to the maximum scale. This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. What can CM get away with and what would warrant a DQ?My friend just made a good point - best case for everyone is if Conor loses by DQ. Vegas cleans up, Conor saves face, Mayweather gets his win. When that line comes up, I might throw some action on it. None of you heavy hitters sandbag me.
That just doesn't make any sense. If it's a sanctioned boxing match with boxing rules, how can anyone possibly justify an MMA ref...and would it even be allowed? There was some talk that the choice of ref was under dispute, that McGregor wanted an MMA ref. Any idea if that happened, or was Mayweather insisting entirely on his-way-or-the-highway?
Is DQ a common prop on its own? I honestly don't know. I only ever remember seeing KO-TKO-DQ put together in a single line. The problem with that is I bet a lot of people will be putting money on KO/TKO (either due to Conor's left hook or his potential stamina issues), so you won't be getting great value on the DQ. But it would definitely give you more reason to bet that line if you also happen to think a KO/TKO is a possible outcome. My friend just made a good point - best case for everyone is if Conor loses by DQ. Vegas cleans up, Conor saves face, Mayweather gets his win. When that line comes up, I might throw some action on it. None of you heavy hitters sandbag me.
That's a really good point. Connor could use his head, elbow, knees, etc. and save face after the fight saying his MMA instincts kicked in.At the Golden Gloves in I think 2006, I was second to last fight the second week of the tourney. The dude I was with was amped up as hell, drinking honey out of a giant bear and pacing back and forth talking this and that. I went up to watch his fight. At the end of the first round, he got gassed, grabbed the dude by the back of the head and kneed him. Place went wild, nobody knew what to do. The ref conferred with the judges, and they let it continue. Start of the second round, same thing happens and they DQ him. Not sure if he had an MMA background, or street fighting, but that'd count.

Was thinking about this article:That just doesn't make any sense. If it's a sanctioned boxing match with boxing rules, how can anyone possibly justify an MMA ref...and would it even be allowed?
Okamoto: How important will the negotiations be when it comes to things like referee, judges, ring size, gloves -- those types of details?
Kavanagh: If I'm speaking plainly, and I don't know how much trouble this will get me in, I think we're going to have a hard time finding a fair referee and a fair set of judges. It will be very difficult for a 50- to 60-year-old boxing referee to not go into this bout a little bit biased.
Actually, I'll throw this out there, I think [U.K.-based MMA referee] Marc Goddard should be the referee. We're already agreeing to boxing rules, boxing fight, boxing ring -- everything is done boxing. So, how about an MMA referee that will understand the inside fighting that will go into this fight?
Thanks. That's interesting. Was thinking about this article:
My friend just spent the night pushing the same scenario. With it being a controversial DQ of course, that helps potentially set up another payday rematch for everybody. My friend just made a good point - best case for everyone is if Conor loses by DQ. I've been saying this for six months but apparently (according to Chris Mannix) provisions are in the contract that will attempt to prevent it from happening. During an interview with Dan Patrick this morning, Mannix said he was told McGregor will lose a "considerable" amount of money if he is disqualified for using illegal strikes or "MMA tactics".My friend just made a good point - best case for everyone is if Conor loses by DQ. Well, you know, except baseball. We have our sports story of the summer. There was nothing happening post NBA Finals until the NFL regular season starts.
"Considerable" is more to someone making 100M a night than it is to Mannix or the rest of the population. Seems like all the rules and contract details are in Floyd's favor. I didn't expect FM to volunteer any disadvantages, but I did expect CM to fight for and get something that favored him. The better chance CM has the more ppl are going to buy it. Mayweather doesn't care though, and he probably shouldn't.I've been saying this for six months but apparently (according to Chris Mannix) provisions are in the contract that will attempt to prevent it from happening. Yeah, no kidding. I've twitter-sparred with Mannix about this before. I don't think he's seen Conor fight at all. Then Fred this morning went on and on about how Conor has no chance, and ended the segment by saying he has barely seen Mayweather fight, and has seen Conor even less.On a side note and not related to Maricano's post or SoSH at all - I've been a die hard MMA fan for almost 20 years. It's my favorite sport but I hate talking about it because the average fan/media member is incredibly stupid. I'm somewhat looking forward to this McGregor/Mayweather spectacle but the amount of mind numbing "hot takes" I've already heard from the media is off the charts. It's gonna be a long couple months of idiots giving expert opinions on a sport they know very little about.
Lol, good one.Well, you know, except baseball.
I heard on the radio today that depending on the type of DQ, Conor would forfeit some portion of his $$$.That's a really good point. Connor could use his head, elbow, knees, etc. and save face after the fight saying his MMA instincts kicked in.
Bovada put up a few teaser props today. They do in fact have separate lines for DQ. Floyd by DQ is +1000 and Conor by DQ is +5000.Yeah, DQ is usually lumped in with KO-TKO, but no serious better is going to put money on Floyd for a KO, so all the bets will go to Floyd by decision, or Conor by KO. If Floyd wins by DQ, that bet will have a tiny amount of action.
Hush jerk, those idiots are gonna make me rich!I've been saying this for six months but apparently (according to Chris Mannix) provisions are in the contract that will attempt to prevent it from happening. PS - And if one more person on ESPN or FS1 says, "In a boxing match, Floyd would win. In an MMA fight, Conor would win..." Yeah, no shit.
Edit - Grammar
Well, you know what they say when something seems like a sure thing in sports betting???Im in the process of moving jobs. Honestly considering placing my.401k.balance on mayweather during the 60 day roll over period. This is insanity.
This my mortgage company will float me an equity loan too?Well, you know what they say when something seems like a sure thing in sports betting???
Bet EVERYTHING you have.
humblebragging motherfucker. You guys have to remember that we are in the Trump timeline of the multiverse, I can't bet this fight.
I really can't risk 65,000 to win 10,000. Winning 10,000 is not going do change my life. Losing 65,000 could cause some household problems.
