Ed Brinkman was Ted Williams' pet project when he managed the Senators. Brinkman went from 48 and 44 OPS+ in 67 and 68, to 89 and 80 with Ted teaching him to hit; then forgot it all when he was traded to Detroit.
Speaking of the 69 Senators my cousins who were living in Silver Spring Md. at the time went to the All Star game in 69 at RFK. They said the Senators fans booed Rico Petrocelli because they thought Ed Brinkman should have started over him, lol. That's the year Rico hit 40 HR's.

Didn't Boston recently have a golden wizard at ss with the glove who's now in Detroit?
I'll still occasionally trawl Tigers clips for Iglesias highlights. He's an artist out there.

(2013 was worth it of course, and his embedded Sox moment was a huge part of that. No regrets.)

Marrero now appears in line for a repeat of 2017, being the primary fill in 3B in Arizona while Lamb is out. A strong, versatile glove and some competency and occasional doubles against lefties is a handy bench player in this short bench age. I am aware of our roster crunch but still wish we had been able to find room for him somehow as he pairs well with Nunez. I think he’ll be able to bounce around rosters for 4-6 years as a fill in starter/defensive caddy.
