Seattle is my team of destiny in this postseason — I’d really like to see them do well. Fun young team, Rodriguez and Raleigh have been a blast to watch, some solid SP with Castillo / Ray / Gilbert — I would love to see them knock off the Cheatros — may be too soon for them, but I’ll be rooting hard.

My wife is experiencing fandom for the first time this year with the Mariners, really snuck up on her (us). She was a despondent mess for a couple days after the Mariners blew an 11-2 lead to the Royals on the Mariners' last regular season road trip, and giddy with delight after they staged the biggest ever postseason comeback on the road.

So we have tickets to my first ever playoff game in person on Saturday. I feel it's likely we'll be attending a wake, but maybe not...

At any rate, I'm deriving some quiet satisfaction at her baseball reactions after 17 years of her confusion, bemusement, and (occasionally!) condescending sympathy at my reactions to the Sox' travails. I'm so happy she's on board with baseball now. I do not envy her the first-time pain of playoff elimination or potential years going forward of playofflessness, but enjoying the ride for now and maybe they can sneak up on all their opponents and stave off my wife's playoff pain for a year...

Go M's!

Also, that video rules, @DeJesus Built My Hotrod .

My theory about the bye teams (except NYY) having huge advantages in this new system is not looking good.

If Verlander doesn’t get his shit together here pretty soon, we are not going to get the proverbial Kate Upton cameo shots.

Where's the "but the Astros have the best chance of beating the Yankees" post?
If it helps, SEA beat NYY 4 out of 6 in August and Castillo obliterated them three times this year (once with CIN).

Teams in the prior format went Sunday to Friday without playing a game. Wednesday to Tuesday is just one more day.

Just wondering: is Vazquez the back-up Astros catcher? Does he play much?
Announcer said Maldonado would probably start most of the games. Nothing against Vazquez, but I would imagine all of them. Maldonado is the superior defensive catcher, and they have plenty of offense. Also, the Houston pitchers "love throwing to Maldonado ". I would like to see Vaz in his Houston uni, and get some ABs.
