The NCAA gets 90%+ of their operating revenue for the entire year from the men's NCAA tournament. All football money goes directly to the schools involved, the NCAA doesn't get a cut. If they cancel the tournament they effectively cancel their entire budget. This is where I'm at. If the NBA suspends the season - forfeiting ungodly amounts of money in the process - how can the NCAA keep the tournament going? I'd say there's less than a 1% chance it ends up happening, as between now and selection sunday we are going to see so many more institutions, leagues, etc., shutting down.
I mean, college athletic conferences are cancelling all spring sports. How can the NCAA say that we can't have the men's lacrosse teams cancel because of corona, but we MUST have the NCAA tournaments!
Well, money I guess. That's why.
So you're saying we can now root for a situation that is both (A) the right thing to do from a public health perspective and may literally save lives, and (B) would result in the financial ruin of the NCAA?The NCAA gets 90%+ of their operating revenue for the entire year from the men's NCAA tournament. All football money goes directly to the schools involved, the NCAA doesn't get a cut. If they cancel the tournament they effectively cancel their entire budget.
Preach. So you're saying we can now root for a situation that is both (A) the right thing to do from a public health perspective and may literally save lives, and (B) would result in the financial ruin of the NCAA?
Sign me right the fuck up.
Dave Gavitt is missed in many ways. How is the Big East this stupid? The Knicks have to be in quarantine because Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were there but it's OK for them to play?
Fucking irresponsible. How is the Big East this stupid? The Knicks have to be in quarantine because Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were there but it's OK for them to play?
Duke tooKansas just suspended all athletic travel so they'd be out of a hypothetical NCAA Tournament.
