I really need to be able to edit some work related video and the pro i work with has suggested that for what I want to do, iMovie should be perfect (nothing terribly sophisticated, mostly just turning myself into an internet sensation, etc) so I have decided that since I haven't upgraded my office computer since I started almost 7 years ago, that I would get an Apple product this time. I used to be a user support person for Apple products when I worked at Brown, so while it has been over 15 years since I owned one, I figure I will remember how it all goes together, but the question is, what do I want?
I will probably keep my desktop machine at the office because it has all the finances on it in Quickbooks and it is up to date, but I don't want to get a MacBook Air and find it is really too small a screen to edit these short (1-5 minutes or so) on it. I thought about a Mac Mini, because I already have a 27 inch monitor, and a 22 inch (for my PC--do i have to get an Apple specific monitor?) Or can I get away with a nice thin laptop and a monitor for docking? My budget is about $2000 for everything (including apple care) and I am ok with no optical drives, but I think I am going to need SD card slots and USB ports and someone I talked to this weekend says the new Airs are not coming with any slots. If you think I can get away with not having any, please tell me. My office has an account at the Apple store with interest free financing so I am probably inclined to buy at the Apple store, or apple.com... I am not adverse to refurbished especially if I am getting more bang for my buck.
I also have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription so I would like to be able to use it on the Mac as well (I can put it on one desktop and one laptop as long as both are mine) but that shouldn't make a difference if I have it on one PC and one Mac since it is basically cloudbased, yes? Please advise!
Thanks in advance.
