This is getting way beyond coincidence. There has to be something fundamental with methods at this point, right?

Or did they take in the Sox medical staff on loan?

Center-backs? Who needs center-backs?

Bring on the kids for Exeter and hope we can put an actual Premier League 11 out there for Arsenal and Manchester United.

FWIW i think it's only a matter of time, say 2-3 years before they scale down the Xmas fixtures. The product, that of the BPL is falling behind the German and Spanish top tier leagues. I reckon money might start talking. There's competetive football for sure, but the league matches last weekend were not good quality. Players are tired.

Doesn't help the situation now though, and I'm seriously wondering if Sturridge is gonna be another Darren Anderton. For those who don't know, he was nicknamed 'sicknote' cos he was always injured (for Spurs). A quality international player who barely had a full season, and never reached his full potential IMO. I'd love to know more about the process of 'recovery' in his case...what's the day to day grind of getting better and staying physically fit and supple and such whilst trying not to exacerbate the injury. I want to know how fragile the kid is. How's his mental state. I was watching some punditry the other day (Crooks and Sutton) and they were talking about pisslbe strikers for england for the Euros,a couple of names were mentioned and one of the pundits was asked would you take him...(I think it was Andy Carroll) and the reply was, maybe, but if Sturridge is fit you take him. Sometimes i forget what Liverpool have in Sturridge. Just hope he's not another Sicknote.

Ibe also injured a hamstring in training. Can't imagine the backline tomorrow at Exeter.

Kolo likely out, hugely important to get Ilori's loan canceled so he can join the team (looking unlikely at this point)...

Bogdan
Randall, Lucas, Enrique (?!), Smith
Allen, Brannagan, Can
Lallana, Benteke, Firmino

Maybe Can drops to the back line alongside Lucas? I have no idea

Ojo was sent back from Wolves, too. Their manager said they had one of their own kids emerge, so there wasn't a spot for Ojo anymore.

I bet both play at Exeter.

So Ilori, Ojo, and Ryan Kent are all straight into the squad after being recalled from loan (Kent was at Coventry IIRC). Can we hold out hope for Scouse Cafu? If Klopp made him captain it would get a little dusty in here.

Ryan Stewart (on loan at Brechin City) is recalled as well and looks to be in the squad. Bogdan is the only senior teamer who looks to be playing

And yet, that's still likely a better outcome than his little butter fingers routine.

So we play 3 senior guys (I'm counting Enrique) and 8 kids. And the 3 senior guys are the weak links. Yep, this is Liverpool.

That keeper has been a bomb scare in every game he has played. Inexcusable error for a keeper to make.

Milana Vayntrub always brightens up the commercial breaks but I digress.

Happy for them, they deserve a replay and could have easily won.

Very risky but ultimately prudent by Klopp to only play Benteke out of the first team - in no universe should Enrique or Bogdan suit up again

Apparently that was the 2nd youngest Liverpool team ever, averaging 22.87 years old. The youngest was 22.85, in a game held the week before the 1965 FA Cup Final.

If they can win the FA Cup replay with Exeter, Liverpool would host the Hammers in a rematch of the classic 2006 Final.

Caulker on loan from QPR for the rest of the year.

After his performance in the 6-1 at Southampton I doubt he's an upgrade over anybody but bodies don't hurt right now

Also with Jonjo Shelvey off to Newcastle for £12m, Liverpool get 30%/£3.6m

Well, Caulker has already scored an extra-time game-winning goal for Liverpool.

Of course, he was playing for QPR when he did it.

Congrats on a well-fought draw. Despite the "steal-the-point-at-the-end" narrative, I felt like Liverpool were slightly better than Arsenal over the course of the game, and a draw is probably the most just outcome.

Klopp really amazed me (again) today with his ability to put together a potent game plan through cobbling together spare parts. It will be fun to have him in the PL for the next few years at least.

Yeah, about that game plan... I'm new-ish to following PL tactics, please permit me a question: how in god's name was Liverpool able to high-press so ferociously for so long without getting burned on the counter? By a team as capable on the counter as Arsenal?

First, a nitpick: Generally speaking, "the counter" is going to refer to situations in which one team has the ball, loses it, then the other team attacks while the other team is not defensively organized or doesn't have enough men back. So Arsenal beating the high press would not really be playing "on the counter" and doing so involves a different set of circumstances. The defending team generally is still quite organized, its just that they are playing a very advanced (high) defensive line, since the high press usually involves pressuring the ball actively as an entire team.

IMO, the biggest reason that Arsenal wasn't capable of burning Liverpool is that Arsenal's starting midfield - Coquelin and Cazorla - are injured and the players in midfield - Flamini and Ramsey - are just not very good passers, especially under pressure. To beat the high press, you need central midfielders that are very good on the ball and under pressure, who can work out of trouble and then have the skill and vision to take advantage by playing the ball aggressively but deftly forward, usually to an attacking midfielder (like Mesut Ozil) who can then turn, drive at the defense, and hopefully play a killer ball behind the high line to a speedy forward (like Theo Walcott) making a well timed run. But for all that to happen you need central midfielders who can make passes to a player like Ozil in dangerous positions in the first place, rather than playing it backwards or sideways or panicking and just booting a long ball up the field.

Darmian is having a shocker with respect to positioning. Unfortunately, Henderson seems incapable of choosing to make the last pass instead of a low-percentage shot.

I just don't see any real quality finishers for 'pool. Solid first half for the reds though, been the better team so far.

Is anyone watching the NBCSN feed and having it cut out for long stretches of time? I'm on FIOS in MA
No, but I keep falling asleep because this game is fucking boring.

ETA: LVG's tactics are so, so, so boring.

Mignolet is an elite, world-class shot stopper. I think there is still some belief that he will somehow develop the authority in his penalty box, the distribution, and the decision making he's lacking.

He won't.

If we see regression in Danny Ward similar to what Bogdan's displayed, we really need to more strongly question John Achterberg, the goalkeeper coach. Mignolet's problems should be correctable, or at least improvable. He couldn't have gotten to this level otherwise. I think he's too damaged at this point and it's simply time to move on.

How is it that he can't learn to kick a rolling ball without shanking it into the crowd? He has literally all day every day to practice it if he wants.
