Avs score with 2 minutes left to beat the Habs 3-2.

Therrien sat Subban and called him selfish.

Good times all around.

Our friends to the north have reached a Chernobyl level meltdown....

If Bergevin chooses Therrien over Subban, Molson should fire him immediately. I mean, yeah, you want your coach to have some authority over even your biggest players, but to get to the point where it's either the 25-year-old perpetual Norris Trophy candidate or your decent but cantankerous head coach, I'm taking the impact player every time. Besides, it's not like Therrien has gotten a lot out of this team since Price went down.

This has to be some GM playing games with Bergevin, no? No way the Habs are stupid enough to get rid of Subban.

I mean, I would LOVE for this to happen. I could actually root for the dude.

(split this out from a couple threads)

I know, it'd never happen. But let's have some fun on a Friday, k?

Bruins contracts
Subban's AAV is 9 million right?

So what would you trade to Montreal for him and what would you trade away to make the cap room.

Everything except Bergeron (and even that is more just a personal love for everything Patrice than rational thought). Picks, prospects, roster people.

And Marchand. They need to be on the same team to maximize continent-wide head explosions.

Krejci, Colin Miller, the 2 firsts this year and MTL's pick of prospects. B's are taking on $1 million.

Do it, Don.

The first guy Montreal would ask about in return for Subban is Bergeron. And that would end the conversation.

I'd love the guy on the Bruins, but realistically there's no way he's traded here.

Well, the last time that org chose their coach over their superstar player it worked out pretty well....for the rest of the league.

The Canadiens are insane. And assholes. But insane.

If it wasn't for Krejci's NMC that he would never waive to play on a team with Tomas Plekanec. Loui (traded elsewhere for a 1st for cap space) Krug, Spooner & 2 firsts would work on the cap.

Ok, I'll bite:
Assuming this is a trade deadline deal for timing (and because I really don't feel like calculating daily totals)

B's have 6.8M in deadline cap space.

Spooner (~300k)
1 of Senyshyn/Zboril/DeBrusk/B's 2016 1st (0)
Hayes (~800k)

And I've run out of people to throw in that wouldn't cripple this team offensively. Maybe let Eriksson negotiate with the Habs on an extension, and if he signs it, include him instead of Hayes and Spooner.

Bergeron and Pastrnak are the only two untouchables for me. I'd consider anyone else, but I wouldn't trade the whole farm for a player with an at-market value contract.

It'd be fascinating to see what the market is for him though. The only remotely comparable player+contract to be traded in the last 10 years that I can think of is Kessel, but Subban's value is a lot higher

Bergeron might be the most valuable asset in the league given his contract. If that's the type of return Montreal is looking for, they're not seriously considering trading him

The original Phaneuf trade is probably the closest comparable. We know he sucks now, but at the time Phaneuf was 25 and was in the middle of a 6/$39 million contract. Had a Norris nomination and was considered elite at the time. Not as elite as Subban is today, but close.

The Flames traded him for a pupu platter of junk (Stajan, Hagman, Ian White and Jamal Mayers). Who knows if they were ahead of the curve in realizing Phaneuf sucked or if it was Jay Feaster being a bad GM.

I would honestly trade Bergeron+ if it meant we can get Subban. Bergeron while being on a great contract and being one of the best all around players in the game turns 31 this summer. Subban turns 27. Also the Bruins would still be ok at center with Krejci and Spooner playing the first two lines. I think finding a 1 D man is one of the most difficult things to do in the NHL. So yea, even though I know it's sacrilege to say for a lot of Bruins fans. I would include Bergy in a deal in a heartbeat if that is what it took.

Seidenberg, Hayes (need for money purposes) Pastrnak, Lauzon, 1st (SJ), 2nd (NYI)

Too much, too little?

From a Habs perspective. Would you trade Subban for a large return with the thought of then making a run at Stamkos?

Stamkos + Subban trade return would be nice.

No way. Ages be damned, Bergeron is one of the top 3 centers in the league on a cherry of a contract and his skillset will age well. The two mil in cap space going forward outweighs any difference in age. I wouldn't make the trade straight up never mind Bergy+.

Bergeron is the one guy I don't trade, Marchand is a close second though if I was in the front office and felt his contract demands next season were going to be prohibitive I'd even entertain moving him. Everyone else is most definitely on the table, though I know some other team would probably beat any package of "everything else" the Bruins could put together.

I thought the CW was that Toronto would be making a huge run at Stamkos. Local kid, lots of cap space, etc.
Absolutely, but he wants to WIN. They can throw all the money in the world at him, and he still might not bite.

Wyshynski floated Buffalo as a better landing spot for him. Dunno about that.
