I wonder if the shoulder inflammation is real or if it's just the Hellenic Flu. Whatever does the job I guess.

Non-zero chance that Kluber has thrown his last major league pitch.

I figure most pitchers have some form of shoulder inflammation at this point in the season

I was at the game last night. Probably derives from the violent jerking of the head motion that occurs when you give up three bombs.

I think you can only be recalled if you are on the 40-man, otherwise your contract is purchased and, at that point, you're either on the roster or aren't, in which case you've been DFA'd and either accepted the assignment, released, or traded.

Thanks to @JM3 for ruining my day, but Kluber is starting a rehab assignment in Portland tomorrow
I have to think this is a favor to Kluber so he can show he is physically able to pitch before the season ends and not because the team intends to use him at the big league level. He makes an appearance or two in the minors, other teams can see him work post "injury," and maybe he gets a nibble or two in free agency this winter.

Agree. Nothing wrong with doing right by people.

You both best be right.
If Kluber makes a big league appearance before the end of the year, it would only be if the team is mathematically eliminated. But even then, bringing him up would require a roster move. Is there anyone on the 40-man right now worth DFAing just to give Kluber a token appearance? I don't think there is.

Him getting a rehab start or two is the same as Adalberto Mondesi continuing the workout at JetBlue. It's just good player relations karma for the future.

Llovera? Probably another fungible reliever or two there (Weiss? Gillaspie?) But yeah, I doubt he'll be pitching on the Big Club again this year. Just that the post startled me with the possibility

Justin Garza & Bear Claw are on there, too.

I hope they don't burn Llovera to make room for Kluber. I would think Llovera has pitched well enough to get a shot at being a middle reliever next year, unless someone else bumps him off. Of the dross they've thrown out there, he's one of the only guys who's been reliable.

Here's the relief pitching for the year... Jump-scare below:

Some of that might just be dumb luck, but he's been pretty great at AAA for a while and was good in San Francisco earlier this year, too (albeit in extremely limited time).
