Yup. My first thought was his batflip after hitting that home run.EDIT: Rosenthal tweet already posted.
Some part of my brain really hoped this was false but as more reports come in, that's all but gone away at this point.
Fernandez brought a LOT to the sport and he seemed like a genuinely fun person to be around. Terrible day.
Not that it matters much, but he was before Munson.
Sure enough. For some reason, I thought Munson died before the 1978 season. Damn memory.Died before Munson.

Being out on a boat at 3am doesn't exactly suggest sound decision making. Maybe they were just getting an early start on fishing. Was he supposed to be pitching today?Associated Press has it now as well. What a waste of talent... hope it was not a result of a poor decision.
To quote Herm Edwards. "Nothing good happens after midnight"Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in Florida early Sunday morning.
Fernandez was 24 years old.
According to CBS in Miami, police received a call of a possible boating accident at 3 am ET. Authorities found a 30-foot boat overturned that had crashed into the rocks off Miami Beach. Three people were found dead and authorities were looking for survivors.
Fernandez's start had been pushed back from Sunday to Monday to make room for Adam Conley returning from the disabled list.

The news thus far says that they received reports of an overturned boat at 3am. Since thus far there have been no reported survivors, it is possible someone noticed the wreckage at 3am and it happened earlier. Tragic regardless of it it was a bad decision or not.Being out on a boat at 3am doesn't exactly suggest sound decision making. Maybe they were just getting an early start on fishing. Very sad.
