Unless the NYY make the playoffs (a reasonable expectation at this point in time), Derek Jeter's final games are scheduled to be here in Boston, on September 26, 27 and 28. I spent a whole lot of time at the ballpark this weekend (thankfully I saw very little of the games) and heard a whole lot of things. Strong rumor that if the Yankees are not still in contention that Jeter won't play in those three games, preferring to finish his career at Yankee Stadium the previous three days against the Orioles.
FWIW, I was told the following by a very reliable source:
1) Even if Jeter does not play in Boston, he will attend at least one of the games
2) If there is a presentation, it must end at least 15 minutes before gametime (Jeter's requirement)
3) The presentation (and there will be one) is still in the early stages of planning.
Let's try to keep this thread to the topic of the final weekend. Love him or hate him, Derek Jeter has been an important part of baseball for quite some time and his contributions deserve to be recognized. There are other threads to discuss his skills as well as to make fun suggestions regarding gifts the Sox should give to him.
