There is no reason to rush him back if he can be completely healthy by mid-August so no.

Taz returns this week so the team is essentially down only 1 reliever.

I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't see at a minimum a "decent" arm coming this way in a trade.

DD has consistently shown that he acts extremely quickly to address big league needs, this won't be any different.

deep inside Guido territory
With Koji out, this probably would slot Ziegler into the closer role and have a primary setup crew of Barnes, Tazawa when he gets back, and Ross. I hope that Barnes can continue his run of solid pitching in higher leverage appearances.

I suggested going out and getting a bullpen arm even before Koji got hurt and the need is even more apparent now.

The game log you linked shows three 1-inning stints, and two 2 IP appearances.

edit...nevermind - they have Lowell outings in the same gamelog.

“@brianmacp: The Red Sox have placed Koji Uehara (pectoral strain) on the DL. Noe Ramirez recalled.”

Consider this Farrell quote regarding Joe Kelly's return to Boston: "“It’s going to be based on need. Keep in mind, he’s not on a major league rehab. He’s on Pawtucket’s roster. The clock isn’t ticking that a certain date it expires and he has to come back with us. Again, that is a roster decision and probably a bigger picture item to get him back here."

At least for the moment, the Red Sox have more faith in Noe than Joe. Since it's a little hard for me to imagine any faith in Noe as a valued member of a major league bullpen, Joe's got something to prove in Pawtucket. I'm guessing consistency over multiple outings.

It's also possible that they have no problem sending Noe right back to Pawtucket for Tazawa tomorrow and that when they bring Kelly up they plan for a longer stay.

It's more than possible, it has been stated that is the case. This has been discussed in the Koji is on the DL thread.

I've been curious about Joe Smith of The Angels. He has been a pretty good back of the bullpen guy for a few years. This season hasn't been his best, he's only signed through the end of the year and The Angels aren't a very good team. These should be pluses as far as his availability go. Wondering what it might take to get him.

Man, its hard to lose your 6-9 guys from the pen, but good thing DD got Ziegler.

I know it would never happen, but I do wonder what DD would be willing to give up for Chapman

Given what he's dealt away so far while being able to keep the closest to MLB ready guys in the system as well as the demand that will be there for Chapman, I'm guessing there is no common ground between the two teams in a Chapman deal.

The Red Sox already walked away from Chapman because of the off field issues. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't take him no matter the price/alignment of needs.

Yes but we don't know the reason they walked away. We hope it's because they didn't want to employee a domestic abuser. But there's a non zero chance they are not the stand up guys we think and were more concerned with losing him for whatever suspension he had coming. The Sox didn't have the luxury of Miller and Batances to fill in during that.

I'm not saying they will get him or that I want them to, but their reasoning then might not preclude them from making a phone call on his price.
