OK, so who got the biggest haul for trading their superstar? Utah in the Gobert trade? Utah in the Mitchell trade? BRK in the Durant trade?
Gobert for Beasley, Vanderbilt, Beverley, Kessler, 23, 25, 27, 29 picks, and 28 swap (my god as I type that out I want to throw up as a Celtic fan who lives in the twin cities and have somewhat adopted the Wolves as a team to root for)
Mitchell for Markanen, Sexton, Agbaji, 25, 27, 29 picks, and 26 and 28 swap
Durant for Bridges, Johnson, Crowder, 23, 25, 27, picks, 28 swap.
UTA got a ridiculous amount of picks in the Gobert trade - 5 picks if you consider Kessler as a first round pick and not a guy. The players they sent amounted to being worth not much more than a bunch of 2nd round picks though. Kessler obviously looks great, but at the time, he was just a late first round pick that nobody was all that excited about.
UTA got a really good player in Markanen, although he wasn't viewed as anything special when the deal was made. Sexton has been OK. And they got 3 firsts and 2 swaps
BRK got probably the best haul of players in Bridges and Johnson, although with how well Markanen has been that is debatable. They got the same # of picks as the Mitchell trade, but one less swap.
If I had to choose, as a tanking young team, I think I take the Gobert deal every single time. None of the Markanen, Bridges, Johnson, etc are good enough to be the 3rd best player on a championship team, so I think I would lean on such a pick heavy haul, with a few role players sprinkled in.
