I think that should have been red on Nketiah. Doesn’t get him with the studs but that’s a very dangerous challenge that could easily cause serious injury.

Surprised that wasn’t a red card.
Nketiah has been late getting to the ball for the past half hour.. needs to be subbed off because he's been basically keeping the press from working all by himself. Arsenal in general have looked lazy and sloppy by their standard.

I think it's a home ground call. If it was at the other end and you have 60,000 fans screaming, more likely VAR has a look. It's not right but i think it's how it plays out.
agree for the onfield ref but the whole point of VAR is to correct for those kinds of biases and mistakes.

Surprised there are two Spurs subs and none of the players on yellows are removed. Sarr in particular has struggled a bit.

Newcastle looking a lot like last year--often not quite good enough against top teams, but will absolutely stuff bad teams into a locker. They just had more top teams (City, Liverpool, you have to also say Brighton) early on.

Let’s cut them some slack. They’ve only been trying to get it to work for like five years.

Can’t get a feel for what this referee wants. He’s been inconsistent on what he calls and doesn’t. So far it’s favored Liverpool on the whole but nothing earth shattering one way or another.

As I type that, Paqueta dives into the water to draw one.
Peacock started in summer of 2020

I didn't watch via the app, but on the browser, NLD was buggy. Other matches seemed ok.

Goal Rush has sound/pictures out of sync the past few weeks

Before Peacock, it sucked as NBC Sports Gold. I’m not giving Peacock a pass as a younger app.

Chelsea's roster is really weak. You look at their lineups and it's really not surprising they haven't gotten many results this season. Take off the Chelsea crest and put on like, Wolves or Fulham and it wouldn't seem that unusual.

Agree. All the spending was done seemingly to win the transfer window.
it’s a disjointed squad with multiple players playing away from their strengths. Someone either here or the EPL survivor chat mentioned they have some 30+ first team players. That’s insane to me.

I love to crap on Chelsea as much as anyone but their injury list is massive right now. I think they've made some serious mistakes over the last couple years but you can't look at their gameday lineups and judge the squad from that.

Love this.

Also, just in general, I always hate the excessive celebrating on a penalty shot (I mean if it's at the death or something, fine), mocking someone's goal celebration when you converted a penalty? Do something from open play before breaking that nonsense out.

Saka mocked Maddison twice on both of his goals, one of which was an OG credited to Romero, and the other a penalty kick. I like Saka and he's obviously a great player, but it was funny his two celebrations were on pretty lucky goals.

These guys are England teammates. Is this a spicy rivalry or good fun? Because The Raheem Sterling-Joe Gomez bullshit ended up pretty badly for Joe.

This smells of England teammate banter to me as well, but who knows?

He did that on the own goal? And that was a true own goal... OG celebrations should be like when you hit the net in tennis and it drops in. Take the point but almost apologize for it.

And I'm big on all the crazy celebrations from open play goals. Go nuts, take 5 minutes if you want. I just want it to be deserved.

All these guys have known each other for years and are just bantering each other off or doing it on a bet/dare from a third England teammate in a WhatsApp group or something stupid like that. We're long past the Keane/Vieira type years when rival teams and players genuinely hated each other.

FWIW, I don't think the Saka goal is one where you can really tell in real time as a player whether that's an own goal or not. You hit a curler to the far post and a quarter second later its in the net after a deflection. On replay you can break it down and see that it would have needed to curl back an improbable amount to get inside the post but that's less obvious in the blink of an eye after you've struck the ball.

Yeah, you don't joke about bad action on the darts celebration if you're genuinely aggrieved. And Saka's celebration didn't strike me as mean spirited mockery
