That was 50/50 at best - it was not a clear an obvious error - and to call back a goal because of that?

edit: I guess after three or four years of VAR inconsistencies the Clear and Obvious standard is a total myth.
It was 100% a foul. Foot on foot.

Everton with even average finishing/finishing luck and this match is extremely tight. I can see how the Toffees have been winning a lot recently.

This is what it looked like early in the season too. Dominated games against Fulham and Wolves and lost.

Doucoure is our leading scorer. We really miss him. But Gomes is unexpectedly good.

He’s been dealing with the passes. Useful guy to have as an option going forwards.

The Luton faithful are at full volume. They’re going to carry the squad through here.

For Liverpool, it’s Jones-Endō-Szobo in the midfield and Diaz-Gakpo-Salah in front.

I expect we’ll see Gakpo dropping deep to allow Endō to stay deeper. I worry about Endo’s distribution - too often he gets intercepted. He needs to keep it tidy today.

Spurs hang on 2-1 but they were fortunate to get the three points. Gomes had the smooth finish for the Toffees but Danjuma added to the missed chances.

Everton kinda deserved a point from that match, but goals win games, you need to finish.

edit: Great results for Burnley and Luton.

Yup.

dubious calls notwithstanding.

Night and day from recent Everton sides though. Down 2-0 and didn’t lose hope. Fairly battered them the rest of the way actually. Ange knows he got away with one.

Champion an absolute pro - he starts by preempting Dixon from bragging about winning the league at Anfield in ‘89 and closes out by blaming Dixon for the 2009 4-4 draw at Anfield.

There were no dubious calls, but Everton played really well. Gomes was awesome, if you can afford to carry his lack of defensive cover. Danjuma did good things, just couldn't finish.

Tee to green Everton are moving the ball so much better, but in the box, it can get a tad shakey. Like every mid table team an affordable 15-20 goal a season striker is the holy grail they're all looking for.

There is no universe where that should even be checked for offside. There is no advantage in millimeters.

Rough game so far for Zinchenko, Arteta should be thinking of alternatives to leaving him on an island against Salah.

Salah has a million goals just like that one to the degree he makes it look routine, but that's such a difficult thing to take that chance and convert it into a goal.

Other than misplaying the long pass and then doing nothing to stop Salah, I thought he was fine.
I can forgive the long pass as it was really well played, but stabbing with his right foot and allowing Salah to have a clear shot from his left is criminal.

Salah my still rip that with his left with tighter D and you tip your cap, but in that case it was close to a freebie.

He was really wide where he received the ball, but the shot spot was really bad at all.

That was a really good half of football. I still say Arsenal are the best team in the league.

edit: Watching the replays of Salah's goal...Zinchenko wasn't interested in engaging for some reason. A bit weird.

Yeah - replays are pretty clear - I’d love to hear the VAR conversation over that one.
The halftime commentary said his hand was in an expected position to support his body, except it was hand to ball, hand never hit the ground, and he gained control his arm. It’s a pen.

When you need to put words to objectify something that your eyes tell you, this is the result. PMGOL will hide behind the “support his body” and “natural position,” but ultimately he did exactly what the law is there to prevent- use arms to control the ball.
