Brighton gets burned playing out from the back. This has been very entertaining stuff so far.

Tried to focus on our kid Chris Richards at the DM vs City & Brighton. Thats a good test - two teams that really pull defense out of shape & require a lot of tactical awareness to manage.

Richards did ok against both if we’re grading on the curve for a transitioning CB. You can still see him thinking, not flowing. But his stature (6’3”) and willingness to get stuck in 1v1 makes him a real presence.

If Roy keeps Richards at the DM & Richards get more fluid in the position…that would be really valuable for the USMNT depth chart.

He did a great job defensively from what I saw, but ball progression seemed very planned to avoid him pointedly and a lot of the times he did get on the ball you could see why. If he needs to do this more for CP it'll be nice for a versatility club to have in his bag because weird things happen in tournaments, but I don't think he can play possession midfield enough for how Berhalter wants to play versus Hodgeson's CP.

I didn’t even clock his ball progression, there wasn’t much of note. But he did have one great first half fun where he marauded up to the 6 yard box and was in great position for a cross…but the ball came in low near post and was cleared. That was Richards’ moment!

That was extremely fun, yeah.

Signed up for FIFA+ to watch and it works exactly as well as I expected a FIFA app to, which is to say not at all.

Yeah, I’m on a questionable stream but it’s working. Fun matchup but City does not seem troubled. Rodri was just hacked but he’s staying in…. And now 3-0.

Good call.

Fair play to The Blades, it's a much better point for them.
New manager bounce. They did look more cohesive than recently. Enough? Probably not. Just don’t see who in the pitch is good enough to carry this club.

2-0 to the Hammers. Is that it for ETH? They looked uninspired and unmotivated.

I think I’d like going to the cockerel like that, but not dressed as Santa, not in that wind, and not for any length of time.

Announcer: "First time Spurs have been in opposition half."

No, it's not. You guys already fucking talked about the Kulu cross to Sarr for a SOG. It was 2 minutes ago.

Luton coming out hot. Let’s see how long they can sustain the energy and if they can notch one before flagging.

Should be another. Johnson is going to be a real player if he can get his finishing going a bit.
Another rip by Johnson, parried to Son, who scores. 2-0. Everton had 4 straight clean sheets coming in. Spurs have 2 in 18 minutes.

They’ve been lethal.

Everton are showing theie lack of depth. Everyone looks leggy defending.

Missing Doucoure badly. He’s the engine.

And now Gana out. Andre Gomes in for his first game action in months.

DCL had three chances, hit one decently, but flapped at the other two. He’s in a slump, scruffling badly.

Spurs have been ruthless and Everton clumsy with their chances- which have not been lacking.

Spurs have lost all control, need the halftime whistle before they give up the goal.
Spurs have been fortunate that Everton have done so poorly with their chances. Their lead is deserved, they carved us open on their two goals, but DCL Harrison and Garner have all put balls right at the keeper when a more dangerous shot was waiting to be had with a bit more composure.

My weekly post wondering how NBC and friends can't come up with a halftime show for all the games.
