That guy completely sucks.  I don't understand why they don't understand that.  Totally useless.

It's schtick and not particularly entertaining schtick.

But if it's not obviously schtick to your ears, perhaps a re-calibration of your bullshit detector is in order.

I actually think it's a paid segment he does... I've heard a few of his "weekly" interviews and they've made some references that lead me to believe so.

One time, they were asking what his full-time job is and asked something like "Jerry, besides barstool and this, what is your real job?"

He actually rendered Felger speechless there..."and that's called reporting MIKE"

Edit: This is why Felger is so good. He makes people care this much that they call or barge into the studio.

This is awesome. "That's called reporting, MIKE."

Also, Thornton's weekly recap columns are actually quite good. Shame he can't bring it on the radio.

Pat's gave their offer.  2/10. 6 million in incentives, with 2 mil pretty easily attainable.

Welker wanted 3/24.

Welker says no to Patriots, he goes to Denver, gets 2/12.

Welker goes to PAts, but they moved on to Amendola.

Agent fucked up Wes' value, he expected more from Denver but was stuck b/c there weren't any other good offers.

F & M just don't believe that no one knew the #'s before Tuesday.

Earlier today they said something like, "anyone writing that this was an agent miscalculation is a mouth piece for the team."

They came back from break and said we welcome anyone to call and here is Mike Reiss, who starts off by saying something like, "I tuned in and heard this and was flabbergasted" or something along those lines.

Felger's thesis is that reporters throwing agents under the bus means that the reporters are under orders from team ownership.  That apparently pissed Reiss off enough to call in.

He should have directed that at Mazz. He hasn't done anything in 2 years...just rode Felger's coat tails. Nice to see someone calling these guys out on the BS.

Some valid shots taken by both sides, here. Wouldn't say there's a winner, although I tend to agree with Reiss's assessment of the situation a bit more.

What Reiss said makes a lot of sense though and I believe him when he says that this is how it unfolded.

That Wes wanted to come back to the Patriots but was expecint 3/24 and was shocked when the Pats came in at 2/10 (12 with incentives), Welker said no and the Patriots moved on to Amendola.  Welker found out he wasn't getting more from anyone else and went back to the Patriots but by that point it was too late Amendola was signed and Welker didn't have a choice but to sign with Denver.

I agree with this, but Reiss sounded worse, he sounded like he was on the verge of tears. There were good blows back and forth though.

Felger claiming that reporters are throwing agents under the bus because they're in the bag with the team flies in the face of Otto's revelation that 99% of leaked stories come from agents.

Why would reports jeopardize their relationships with said agents?

He probably was.  He worked to create a sourced timeline, only to hear a couple of radio guys dismiss it because it doesn't fit their narrative.

I mean, Reiss isn't on an island there - Curran and Amendola's agent also confirmed that he signed Tuesday.

Definitely, and he was clearly upset, but that's also kind of just how Reiss sounds.

And was Welker lying when he said he approached the Broncos, not vice versa?
I thought the same thing when Felger said earlier he listened to every word of the press conference, etc, but he never brought this part up.

Good back and forth, it comes to Felger and Reiss having a very different interpretation of the events.

Felger thinks the Patriots and Welker knew the market all along, whereas Reiss thinks Welker's agent grossly overvalued the market.  Once Welker and his agent asked for 3/24, the Patriots had to go to Amendola.  Felger believes the Patriots deliberately came in at 2/10 + incentives to make Welker take less.

I wish more beat writers would call-in and challenge Felger, though.  Since Mazz doesn't counter him, the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics media are a frequent target of his.  It makes for good radio when Felger has to argue with somebody besides a straw man.

I don't think Reiss was upset, but wasn't he frustrated at what all the people who hate Felger hate? That Felger just made up a scenario that fits his narrative and doesn't listen to anything else.

Every point Reiss brought up based on you know reporting, Felger just continued to spew his narrative.

Good for Reiss and honestly his story sounds the most plausible.

What Felger is doing right now is driving me nuts and what kills me when listening to him.

I'm not sure if he is being obtuse and understands the 3/24 part of Reiss' argument but it doesn't fit his narrative so he is just talking around it and ignoring it or if he didn't really listen to what Reiss was saying because he was so caught up in the argument.  Either way this part isn't fun.

Yep, back to what pissed of Reiss. Let's just make up stuff, ignore any reports that don't fit your narrative and have Tony say stupid shit.

And this is what makes him a douchebag. It's not good radio, where the listeners can leanr about how the negotiations went down. It's the Mike Felger Ego Hour, and it's fucking stupid. It's by far his biggest weakness.

Reiss is a reporter who did the legwork. To have the likes of Felger handwave the facts away in favor of his pet theories he just cooks up in the studio must be absolutely infuriating to him.

The persona Felger has created almost requires him to double-down in situations like this, so it's not surprising.  He can't be heard capitulating to the likes of Mike Reiss.

Not today he can't.

On Monday, "when I had time to look things over more closely and put together a more complete picture" he will capitulate and apologize to Reiss.

Glad they got called out.  Reiss presenting items he reported with sources, and Tony and Mike retort with 'Well, I just don't think that's what happened , based on our complete and utter speculation, because it suits us'. Switched over to EEI only to hear Pete Sheppard, then tuned to Pandora.

I think that this is Felger's biggest weakness. Once gets a narrative in his head for whatever reason he doesn't have the ability to quickly understand what the other side is saying so he continues on with his narrative and it isn't until he has the time to actually sit back and think about it that he realizes what the other guy's point is and that it was valid.  I don't think it's schtick, I just think that he can't actually comprehend the other side quickly enough.

This is where Bertrand (Mazz is useless) needs to take over and understand Reiss' (or the other side of the argument) point and even if he doesn't agree with it, break it down and argue it with Felger until he does get it.

It's weird that there was a brief mention of the "overpay" for Arrington, now back to 4 hours of ripping the Patriots for being cheap and hard-ass. Wonder why there wasn't a whole segment on "did they pay to much for Arrington"????

I love Felger and Mazz and listen/watch every day for at least part of it. The last 2 days bring out the worst in them. I take that back, the Trader Danny 2 days was by far the worst I've heard. This is close.

Every day on my ride home I tune in just dying to hear some good sports talk and maybe learn something about what happened that day, and almost every day I feel dumb for thinking it could happen on that show.  Somehow the Patriots are cheap and overpay at the same time.  They're stupid for trying to go younger with Amendola, but they're also stupid for going older with Abraham.

I don't want a show that blows the Patriots at every chance, but for Christ's sake...it's just stupid.  How can anyone listen to this contrived crap[/mazz] for more than a couple of minutes without wanting to put a gun in their mouth?

Because the option on the other sports station is Pete Sheppard.

WEEI should have had Mike Salk start this week.  They should've read the tea leaves, known there was a chance that it could be a week like this on Felger and Mazz, and tried to capitalize on the situation.

I love Felger and Mazz.  But this was a bad week for them ... I would've switched over to Salk/Holley, and maybe I would've liked it.

But nope, give me Pete Sheppard and Jack Edwards today.  That's what I need to hear.

Edit: The more I think about it, today's show was really similar to something you would've heard on "The Big Show" years back.  Ordway gets a storyline in his head purely based upon semantics (did the Patriots know Welker wanted 3/24 or did they just feel he did?) and then yells over everybody else about it for four hours.  And I mean, Felger has been hosting with Ordway every night on Comcast this week.  Maybe it's rubbing off.

It's apparent that Felger works off a script. He prepares for each show with a list of topics and takes and then runs the playbook. I think you're right - he doesn't think on his feet very well. Today's narrative was taken from the tone of the callers yesterday - WTF?!?! Felger tries to serve the audience by fueling the topics that generate calls and the instant reaction to this thing yesterday was so incredulous that Felger decided to fuel it a bit more. (It does not help that Mazz is an ill-informed harpy, but this is known, so...)

With two and half days of time to reconstruct the timeline, Felger will pivot on Monday. Especially if the Patriots nail down a few more signings this weekend. The vow to "not criticize the Welker thing ever again if they sign Ed Reed" was a large hint of where he thinks things will be on Monday. Adding Abraham, Adrian Wilson, Talib, another CB and Vollmer (for example) will have Felger opening Monday with a "I admit when I am wrong" speech and an apology for his "tonality" with Mike Reiss. It'll be sincere if he includes an actual apology for having the wrong facts and then basing a stupid opinion off it.

So while Bad Felger does things like today, Good Felger often atones with actual mea culpas and examinations of why he was wrong.

Because I too thought today was like the Big Show on its worst days, as Phenom said.

Lastly, Mazz and his Bernard Pollard obsession (and Amendola aversion) has been particularly awful this week. He is radio's version of Nick Cafardo. Clueless and careless. TSH should just take the cap hit now and promote Beetle.

I didn't even make it this far into the show.

I hate nothing more than the media attacking others in the media, especially when the attacker is just flinging shit at the wall.

Heard Felger twice call out the media, and then Mike Reiss specifically, apparently for not nailing the Patriots to the wall for not re-signing Welker. Then basically saying they're all just carrying water for the Patriots. The second attack came after Mazz said maybe the Pats paid Arrington more because he could've had a better offer in hand and Felger starting ranting about the media, the guys like Mike Reiss, said they never go over their number! So the market doesn't matter! So Tony flinging a shit theory at the wall, gave Felger an opening to fling his shit theory at the wall and slime Mike Reiss with it. Good look fellas!

At that point I shut them off for the day, and was kinda bummed when I saw Beetle tweet that Reiss was coming on. I don't think he needed to dignify their garbage actions with a response. Hate to see them rewarded for that shit.
