How many times does a goalie get pulled for non-injury reasons, then get put back into the same game? It pretty much never happens. The goalies aren't really conditioned to go shuttle in and out during a game. Once they get pulled, they basically shut it down.

I wouldn't have pulled Lundqvist in the first place, but that's another story.
Except for Mike Keenan.

Didn't the Bruins pull Thomas once, only to have the back-up actually do worse than him, and so Thomas was put back in to be terrible again? Am I making this up?

Yep, Keenan is the one guy who would do that.
I remember he had two of the top 10 goalies of all time on his Blackhawks team in Belfour and Hasek and would shuffle them in and out mercilessly. God Keenan sucked.

Not in the playoffs. Maybe in the regular season, sure. It happens once in a great while, but not often.

very convenient extra second went off the clock after the whistle there. Should be 5 on 3 for another second

Yeah, 5 or so years ago they had a 8-6 games (or something like that) where Thomas started, got pulled for Fernandez, then put back in the game. I think it was against the Leafs and they did the same thing.

That was late and blindside, but shoulder to the chest. No head shot, no elbow whatsoever.

Amazing still that Prust's never got called but this is 5 and a game.

I got into an argument on Twitter with a guy about this, but at what point does the league suspend Subban or at the very least penalize him during the game? It is disgraceful to watch all his initiating contact then flopping or embellishing contact act EVERY SINGLE FUCKING GAME. Its sad to watch and for a league that prides itself on toughness and manning up, it's a definite black eye.
I also have to wonder, what is his Q rating throughout the league among the players? I know all the mediots and the hockey "experts" love him and can't slob on his knob enough, but I highly doubt the players are as keen on his bullshit act.

Also has anyone commented on how Therrien looks exactly like David Walliams (Mueller from Dinner for Schmucks?). Except with thinning hair and a douchier look on his face at all times.

Not much Talbott could do on that one.

Is there a more hateable franchise than the Canadiens? At this point, I barely care about the Yankees. The Canadiens have been consistently hateable forever. I kinda liked Saku Koivu, but of course the fans couldn't deal with a European captain.

Pull out the other one, Saku is the most popular Hab captain since Jean Beliveau.

You're the Subban of messageboard embellishment.   While I know Koivu is pretty popular in Montreal,  there is no chance he is "more popular" than the little Richard, Cournoyer, Savard or Gainey.

The Leafs game I'm thinking of, Thomas got yanked for the 3rd but wasn't put back in. Manny came in for the 3rd and shut the door. The Leafs yanked the starter (who the hell was it...Toskala, I think), put in CuJo, who sucked even worse, then they put Toskala back in.

Oh, he's definitely more popular than Gainey, the guy who traded for Scott Gomez. He's definitely more popular than Serge as well, since he has his fair share of enemies due to his brusque management style and avowedly pro-federalist views, although people have since come to realize that two Cups in 10 years of GMing is a pretty fair return in the modern day NHL where the Habs can't swindle teams for number one draft picks.

As for Henri and Cournoyer, I'll split hairs here a bit - Saku is more popular than them as a captain. Nobody really thinks of Richard (both of them) or Cournoyer with the C on their sweater like they think of Saku, Guy Carbonneau or Jean Beliveau. They just happened to be the senior members of the team at a particular time and got the job.

Seriously, people under 30 adore Saku. Absolutely love him. About half the HFBoards crowd wants to retire his number and he's a good, but not elite centre with zero Cups. I'm an Aspie who didn't grow up there and loved the history and the goalies so I never saw the appeal, but I know people who think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The guys (Boomer and Carton) on WFAN this morning were just railing against Subban and the Canadiens for their embellishment, as if this is something new.  B's fans have been observing this for a while now.

But it's nice to see other cities recognizing what crap Montreal pulls, game in and game out.

It is a great thing it's getting the attention it deserves. This can't continue, it will hurt the game. They really need to try to nip it in the bud to the best of their ability now. I realize it's difficult, but i do think some kind of "after the game" review would help, a lot. If you see a blatant dive, a player is suspended for a game. That will stop it right quick.

Someone's got to tell Subban it's ultimately going to damage his reputation and career. He's so fuckin' talented and a really good player. Clutch, too; he's a huge reason the Bruins aren't in the ECF. There's just no need for all the childish theatrics. Does he want to become the next Lidstrom, or to become known as a diving jackass? It takes away from his impressive game when he pulls this shit.

It really makes me think it's an organizational philosophy that's been instilled there based out of the misguided belief that they're hockey's chosen ones.

I think you're overthinking it, SJH. At worst, it's Italian soccer style "These idiots in stripes will fall for this shit, so let's push it and see how far we could go". Bergevin's org is different than Gauthier's org, which is different (although less so) than Gainey's org. Bergevin's generally gone for bigger, more physical guys who you don't necessarily consider as embellishers.

I don't think there's any belief in being God's gift to hockey. That got beaten out of us by the Houle era. There's an insane desperation to win the Cup that maybe a franchise like Columbus doesn't have in the same way, but I don't think that's the same thing.

And Subban is the best player I've ever seen in the CH, outside of goal. He obviously likes being a pest but he's going to do that whether he embellishes or not.

But if he keeps embellishing like this on this big stage, he's going to get a rep as a flopper and that might take away all the great things about his game. Subban is tough, fast, relentless, and he has a powerful shot. But, right now, all I think is that he's a flopping dick.

I don't think that the swan dives remotely take away from his status as the Habs' Conn Smythe candidate through 2.5 rounds, but I definitely don't want to see a Subban haters club start the way that there's always that one guy who thinks Crosby is a pussy. Guys like Subban who play the game with such offensive verve from the blue line are the type of players that get me out of bed in the morning as a hockey fan - forget the grinding third liners from Saskatchewan.

Just finishing watching the game now....can we win a game without a shoving match at the end of it? Christ.
