My wife has insisted Montreal's not making it to the Finals. I still say these officials can hand those fuckholes the Cup, but tonight alleviated a lot of trepidation.

Now, handshakes in Montreal on Tuesday. PLEASE.

Charmin soft goal by Tokarski there, down and out way early.

At a certain point you go down, and St Louis was pretty close. Also quite the snipe.

Maybe you want him up for a step longer, but I wouldn't call it soft. You of all people here should know what soft goals look like.

Man, Rangers fans thinking St. Louis put them in the mix for a Cup run.  Delusions run deep.

You guys realize the Rags gave up a 1st rounder for a guy who will be 39 soon right?

This is Rags as usual and history tells us exactly how well acquiring aging stars works for the Rags.

Nah we need to drag this out so whatever is left can get flattened by the Hawks or Kings.

The commentary in the video's predictably obnoxious, but it's worth noting that Emelin was a complete passenger on St. Louis's OT goal.

On other boards I frequent Montreal fans are lamenting the officiating saying they didn't get a fair shake as the Rangers got away with three penalties in overtime.

I don't wish a Munich Air Disaster on anyone or their team, but the shitstain Canadiens are damn close to me getting there.

I'm sure many will disagree, but even with some douchetastic players on both sides over the years, the Yankees and Red Sox have been honorable foes.

There is nothing honorable about the Canadiens.  Fuck those guys.

There is no comparison between my hatred for the Canadiens and the Yankees. It's a runaway for the Canadiens, the douchiest franchise there is

And this is with Montreal in the midst of a 20+ year cup drought. Can you imagine how insufferable the franchise and its fans would be if they enjoyed the same success as the Yankees over that time period?!?

I think the 21 year drought is what has magnified their douchiness. And they were fucking lucky to win in 1986 (especially) and 1993.

None whatsoever. The Canadiens are reprehensible, from top to bottom. I understand why Lucic lost his mind. They are beyond awful. Shady and cheap and whiny. It's really comical.

edit - you know it's a really, really bad team when you have a board of Bruins fans rooting for the Rangers. That says it all right there.

I'll be honest, I'm fairly shocked we haven't heard something similar from Michelle heading into game 5. I hope the Rangers pound them into submission tonight, and I hope it's a complete blowout so we get to see some classic Canadien antics the last 10 minutes or so.

Oh, and where's the gif of that Subban head flop on the slash to the leg?

NHL refs are better people than I am. Because if I called a penalty and it turned out that it was a result of something like that I'd never call another penalty committed against that player again. I mean someone would have to bring a baseball bat out and go to town on them to get a slash. Or take out an eye for a high sticking call. Something like that. And even then I might call them for embellishing just cause.

Have any of the longer-tenured hockey fans here ever seen a call actually made for Embellishment?  Or is it like the rule in baseball where the pitcher has to deliver the pitch in 12 seconds?

Yes, but it's a rara avis indeed.

If you look closely, that's actually the rare Double Embellishment. He's embellishing a trip (well, more flat out diving on the trip) and the high stick at the same time. That's a sold 9.5 at least.

It's called sometimes (though seems to be incredibly rare in the playoffs). The problem is that they almost always call the player committing the "penalty" for a minor as well as the player who embellishes. So, you get a 4-on-4 instead of a penalty to the diving team. Which means there's not really a deterrent to embellishing.

I would be livid. To me, "You suck so much at your job that I'm going to fool you into fucking up," is a far worse showing up of a ref than, "You fucked that call up." Yet someone like Lucic flips out when he's cross checked face first into the boards with no call and gets a game misconduct while theses assholes make a mockery of the officials and the game with no response.

I've basically had it with Marchand and he does maybe three times a season what Subban does three times a game. I'd probably stop watching hockey if I had to root for these assholes.

He really is just a microcosm of his team. And they've been like this for a while. They're the runt-of-the-litter kid in school that gets told how special they are by Mommy but can't hack it on their own in the real world, so they pick fights they know they have no intention of finishing with the hopes that the teacher will bail them out. The few times that doesn't happen, they while about how much they get picked on, getting the other kids in trouble anyway.

At some point, officials need to see video of all of this, collectively decide, "we're not getting fooled anymore," and let them take their medicine. The league, the Canadiens, and their fans will eventually be better for it.

So to answer scotian's question from earlier, no, their record in the playoffs has nothing to do with the disgust toward them. It's the deep-down belief they all have that the Stanley Cup is their right, their knowledge that they can't compete 5-on-5, so they forever and actively seek penalties even if none are there, and the whining that somehow, when they lose, it's someone else's fault. They have no honor, and if playing within the structure of the game is too much for them, then get out of the way.

Rangers got called for it twice in Game 2 versus the Flyers.
