Orioles GM Mike Elias on the Red Sox hiring Craig Breslow as their next CBO.

“There’s 17 years of playing experience — that counts for a lot — while other candidates were probably toiling in different corners of the game… He’s just a well-rounded, impressive person. I think it’s an excellent, excellent hire for the Red Sox… From my standpoint, I’m looking forward to it. I think it’ll be a lot of fun. But I wish he was in a different division.”

Elias and Breslow were teammates back at Yale.

Is there a time for a press conference yet? Waiting on the official introduction so we can move on the the offseason.... and see what magic he can do!
Pretty sure there's a league moratorium on announcements or press conferences during the World Series. I'd expect the formal introduction will happen within a day or two after the Series ends. No doubt the man is already on the job though.

Most importantly, where will he be eating Thanksgiving dinner?

From the Globe piece
But Breslow did not wait for someone else to write his next chapter. He wanted to take primary authorship. Instead of simply interviewing for available jobs, he wanted to take part in producing his own job description.

That stance put off some - notably, according to multiple MLB sources, the Red Sox.

Breslow interviewed with Dave Dombrowski and other members of the Boston front

office. It became quickly and mutually evident that there wasn't a fit for the broad role he sought.

The Cubs, however, viewed Breslow as a special case who deserved special treatment.

"It sort of felt like he had been in grad school the whole time even though he had been playing," said Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. "Despite the fact that he'd just been plaving for all that time, he really had a feel for kind of organizational structures, how to build things out, how to articulate his thoughts.

Is every person in the Boston Globe sports comment section brainwashed by 98.5 elderly people? Holy shit, what a fucking dumpster.

Yes.... (perhaps its can be a topic for a new thread) but IMO sports talk radio is a cancer, that only panders to the Lowest common denominator)

Disagree with this statement wholeheartedly. Sports talk radio has to be taken as entertainment and not for next-level in the weeds kinds of discussions. There are segments of shows that are more intelligent than others, but not everything has to be the kinds of discussion that goes on in places such as here.

Seriously. You ever hear a caller try to read off numbers on the air to make a point? It's awful. There are different forums for different discussions. Sports radio is top of the funnel sports talk. Places like here (when it's working) allows for a more nuanced view of sports. I wouldn't want to listen to a SoSH styled call on sports radio any more than I want to read dozens of sports radio-like posts here*.

* Some aren't so bad. A sports radio post, when done right, cuts to the quick and whether right or wrong the author can be understood. There are times when I want to read that then a dissertation filled with columns of numbers on why Kyle Barraclough didn't have a really good night against Houston in August. Sometimes a player just sucks and it's okay to say that without adding more context.

Press conference is tomorrow.
Craig clearly ran 500,000 simulations in his head and based on the talent, trends, and advanced sabermetrics of the Rangers and D-Backs, he was able to determine it was a 99.87% probability the World Series would end in five games. That’s why his press conference was scheduled for Nov. 2.

I have it on good authority that if the WS went six games, Craig’s opening line was going to be “well, when you’re right 99.87% of the time, you’re wrong 0.13% of the time.”

Dog fighting is also "seen as entertainment." The problem with your description is that *most* of the participants themselves don't see themselves as or act as entertainers. They portray themselves as knowledgeable "experts." They are generally neither. The guy in a clown suit in the center ring at the circus is not yelling at you saying "I am actually Laurence Olivier!!!! and anyone who thinks different is an idiot."

"Sports" "talk" radio is not the only perpetrator, but that industry is among the leaders in making people less-or totally-uninformed about particular subjects.

The majority of sports talk radio hosts do see themselves as entertainers. For example, Felger on his off air show on Wednesday said they are talking Patriots so much despite the lost season because it's good for rating and it's a big story. So, yes they talk about things that are going to garner the highest ratings. Yes, they are knowledgeable about the subjects they are talking about, but at the same time they also do what's best for ratings because that is what pays the bills.

Really focusing on "he's one of us" and "I'm one of you"

Lot of PR to connect back with the fans, before speaking of goals, suggests Bloom's aloof style is viewed as the problem.

He kinda just bodied Bloom. Not sure if that was the intention but it definitely came off as a dig

Sports reporters being so bad at asking meaningful questions makes this sort of press conference torture.

Simple, short questions get answers: "has management set a maximum budget for the upcoming season?"

Also found this answer interesting: "Alex Cora will be the manager for the 2024 season."
I think we're reading too much into the way he speaks---he was asked about working with Cora and he basically was saying that since Cora is the manager for the 2024 season, of course they'll be working together. I think it's simply his manner of speaking.
