@SportsCenter: BREAKING: Celtics agree in principle to deal sending Rajon Rondo to Dallas for Wright, Nelson, Crowder & 2 picks. (via @ESPNSteinLine)
Unless they flip him back to a contender, but yeah.Eddie Jurak said:It really must suck to be Jameer Nelson...
crystalline said:If the first is 2018 or later its a good deal. If it is much earlier it illustrates how little Rondo is worth.
My guess: 2018 first.
I hope Rondo blows the doors off this year and leads the Mavs to a title. Could be fun to watch.
Rudy Pemberton said:Had to do it, but it's hard to see the C's being anywhere close to good anytime soon. Building around nothing but hope. Keep on acquring picks and kick the can down the road.
And this deal improves their own pick...RedOctober3829 said:They now have 3 1sts this year.
Ed Hillel said:Why don't you give it two months to see if someone gets hurt, if this is the value? I don't know about this, and have no idea why they're throwing in Powell. Come on, Danny.
Statman said:The Celtics got fucking robbed. I'd rather keep Rondo and let him walk at the end of the year for nothing in return than accept that shit platter that Cuban just served us.
The fact that we are including a promising rookie (Powell) in the deal just infuriates me.

Not really, the way Rondo has been playing (and if Smart can stay healthy).Eddie Jurak said:And this deal improves their own pick...
Is Powell really a dealbreaker?Ed Hillel said:Why don't you give it two months to see if someone gets hurt, if this is the value? I don't know about this, and have no idea why they're throwing in Powell. Come on, Danny.
Rudy Pemberton said:They are a better team without Rondo, I thought?
If backcourt defense is what Dallas was seeking, they will be sorely disappointed in this deal. Lucky for them they still have Harris and Barea.triniSox said:DJBMH - I agree about the cons but I think Dallas desperately needed backcourt defense and hopefully Rondo can be that guy.
Irrational? Rondo played himself out of town and got himself dealt to a contender. IMHO Jackie M. was right all along.Devizier said:I'm going to miss HRB's irrational vitriolic hatred towards Rondo.
Yeah, I like it from that perspective. I like it for Rondo as well. Going into a situation that plays to his offensive strengths and hides his offensive weaknesses.Eddie Jurak said:And this deal improves their own pick...
I have not seen anything to verify, but from what I've read, Nelson hasn't been scoring very well this year. He's only shooting .374 from the field (was under .400 last year too). He's had some injuries so that could be the cause but at this point, it would seem that Rondo is a clear upgrade from Nelson. The more I think about this, the more I don't like it for the Mavs. Rondo's passing and ball-handling is an upgrade vs Nelson but Nelson is clearly a better scorer than Rondo. And the Mavs cost themselves some wing and front-court depth (not that the C's value Wright and Crowder like the Mavs did). This reeks of Dallas doing something to do something. That said, unless Rondo regains his defensive form (and I am not buying that he will), its a bad trade for Dallas.
Maybe not long at all.luckiestman said:How soon do Cs need to cut someone or do a trade?
Before the trade is finalized. From Larry Coon's Cap FAQluckiestman said:How soon do Cs need to cut someone or do a trade?
However, there must be enough roster spots for the incoming players. A team with a full roster of 15 players cannot trade one player for two players without first waiving a player on its roster (or sending him away in another trade). This team could not acquire two players and simultaneously waive one of the incoming players.
