Reports were that no one else wanted to go past maybe 4 years for the oft-injured Rodon, so Boras backed down slightly from the 7/200 he has been floating recently.Great move by the Yankees. After all the other deals going down, this contract seems sane.
It IS possible to get Boras to blink sometimes. I think when J.D, Martinez became a free agent, Boras was saying he wanted eight years, but once the Yankees traded for Stanton, Dombrowski held firm on five years.Reports were that no one else wanted to go past maybe 4 years for the oft-injured Rodon, so Boras backed down slightly from the 7/200 he has been floating recently.
There were a lot of rumors that Hal promised Judge a big acquisition or two if he agreed to come back. Now that they are paying judge, they have to go all in during Judge's productive years.
Just to note that when you're Scott Boras, "blinking" means taking six years when every other team wouldn't go past four. Love him, hate him, he's very good at his job.It IS possible to get Boras to blink sometimes. Yeah, it didn't have to be hindsight, this is what I was saying then, that Cashman had four rotation spots locked in for 2023 after trading for Montas and thought he could do better in the 5th one. This is also why NY did not offer Taillon a QO (plus they would have only gotten a 4th rounder back) because they did not want to take the chance he would accept and fill that 5th spot.In hindsight, is this why they traded Monty at the deadline? Picked up the starting center fielder and then replaced Monty with an even better lefty starter.
Players are giving up opt-outs in return for double-digit years on the deal, I think.I feel like opt-outs were the big rage over the last few years, but I have heard less about them with the big signings this winter. Lots of no-trade though.
Am I missing the opt-out talk? Are these contracts so long and player friendly the agents just stopped making it a sticking point?
Yeah, agreed.Players are giving up opt-outs in return for double-digit years on the deal, I think.
If it makes you feel better, over the past six seasons, innings pitched:God fucking damnit. I really liked Rodon, and now I have to rationalize this as "well, this deal is reasonable so his medicals must have some red flags". This is damn near worst case scenario.
I'm with you. In terms of future expectations, the past two years seem a lot more relevant than the preceding four years.I suppose if some Sox fans want to go back six years for something to be hopeful about, Yankee fans can look back at the last two, and everyone can be happy about something.
And maybe in a weird way, his early injuries maybe helped him save some bullets in his arm by not logging so many innings.I'm with you. In terms of future expectations, the past two years seem a lot more relevant than the preceding four years.
Assuming German is on his way out, trimming two DV guys off the roster this offseason feels like another win for the Yankees even if only in terms of clubhouse chemistry and PR. May also make them more likely to re-sign Zack Britton if they want to.Rodón is indeed taking Domingo German's number as well as his rotation spot, he has worn 55 for the last 4 seasons. Dunno what that means for the future of Domingo in NY...

I'm not sure dumping two DV offenders only after they've worn out their usefulness deserves kudos.Assuming German is on his way out, trimming two DV guys off the roster this offseason feels like another win for the Yankees even if only in terms of clubhouse chemistry and PR. Yeah I wasn't giving kudos (nor would I) or suggesting that it's some great moral victory (it's certainly not after years of employing Chapman and German). I am, however, suggesting that it would be addition by subtraction for the Yankees.I'm not sure dumping two DV offenders only after they've worn out their usefulness deserves kudos.
View: https://twitter.com/BryanHoch/status/1654602122992705538?Carlos Rodon said he has been told his back issue is "chronic." He is tentatively scheduled to have the cortisone injection next week. Asked if a July return is realistic, he said: "I can't put a timeline on anything. I'll get this injection and I want to throw as soon as I can."
This is legit hilarious. I’m now rooting for him as actively as I can root for a Yankee, meaning I’m not actively hoping that he and his family gets crushed by an asteroid.
