2 years and $3.8mm AAV left on his contract. Not ideal, but I don’t think the team had much of a choice here.

Once he clears and is assigned to Providence, the Bruins open up $1.025mm in cap space.

Never thought they'd make this kind of move. Best case scenario it lights a fire and he earns a spot back on the Bruins, worst case is nothing.

Beleskey seems like a good guy..

    But good.

The team has better, younger, and cheaper players who deserve a spot on the roster more than him.

This is what a smart team does.

In line for a buyout next summer to save cap space and cash?

I’ll try and double check, but I don’t believe they can buy him out. My understanding is teams are only allowed 2 buyouts at any time. The Bruins will have Seidenberg and Hayes still on the books next season.

Edit: Actually, I think they can buy him out. According to the Cap Friendly CBA Faq’s, the limit of 2 was for compliance buyouts following lockout III.

I guess its a good sign that they dont have to keep running an ineffective veteran out there regularly simply because they have insufficient quantity or quality to replace him. Too bad it didn't work out, but it didn't.

Beleskey is in the Providence lineup tonight, skating with JFK and Chris Porter.

I'm surprised this is how it all turned out for him. He was pretty good in his first year and seemed capable of being a solid middle 6 option. Now, whatever he has left in the tank, the youth movement has surged past him.

He never really was the same after the knee injury last year.

I don’t think the coaching change helped either. He was never fleet of foot and now they play faster and more North-South.
